Methods of preparing highly charged polyethylenimine and compositions and uses thereof
A method of preparing a disinfecting composition comprising charged polyethylenimine (PEI), the method comprising adding a base to an aqueous solution comprising a linear PEI hydrochloride solution to provide a linear PEI salt solution with a pH between 9-11, adding a first organic acid to reduce the pH to less than 7, removing about 20% to 100% of the salt from the solution, and optionally adding water and/or a second organic acid to obtain the disinfecting composition with a pH of 2-7. The method can further comprise adding at least one metal salt to the disinfecting composition. The resulting disinfecting solution can be used to provide antimicrobial products with enhanced antimicrobial performance, reduced toxicity, and/or able to leave a persistent “kill-later” film.

Coatings for materials
A textile includes a substrate and a coating applied to a surface of the substrate. The coating includes a plurality of bilayers positioned one on top of the other. Each bilayer includes a first layer including a cationic polymer and a second layer comprising an anionic polymer. The cationic polymer in the first layer includes a polyethyleneimine (PEI), a poly(vinyl amine) (PVAm), a poly(allyl amine) (PAAm), a polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride (PDDA), or a chitosan (CH). The anionic polymer in the second layer includes a poly(acrylic acid) (PAA), a poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS), a poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA), a poly(sodium phosphate) (PSP), or a poly(vinyl sulfate) (PVS).

Enhancing the antimicrobial activity of biocides with polymers
Disclosed are compositions comprising a) an antimicrobial agent, which is selected from the group consisting of biocides containing halogen atoms and/or containing phenolic moieties, formic acid, chlorine dioxide, chlorine dioxide generating compounds, dialdehydes; components containing an antimicrobial metal such as antimicrobial silver, and b) a polyamine, especially a polyethylenimine. The polyamine is effective as a booster for the antimicrobial agent.

MULTILEVEL ANTIMICROBIAL POLYMERIC COLLOIDS AND DEVICE SCREENS CONTAINING SAME
A multilevel antimicrobial polymeric colloidal particle includes a polymer scaffold and at least one antimicrobial polymer carried on the polymer scaffold, where the polymer scaffold and the at least one antimicrobial polymer form a hollow colloidal particle. An antimicrobial core may be received within the hollow colloidal particle. The multilevel antimicrobial polymeric colloidal particles may be incorporated into an optically clear acrylic material to form an antimicrobial coating. The antimicrobial coating may be coated and ultraviolet cured onto a glass, metal or plastic substrate or the like to form a screen for electronic devices or the like which has antimicrobial properties.

Compositions comprising a biocidal polyamine
Compounds, compositions, and methods comprising a polyamine compound are described, which may be used to kill, disperse, treat, or reduce biofilms, or to inhibit or substantially prevent biofilm formation. In certain aspects, the present invention relates to compounds, compositions, and methods comprising polyamine compounds that have antimicrobial or dispersing activity against a variety of bacterial strains capable of forming biofilms.
