Purification of fatty acids by a chromatographic method
09802881 · 2017-10-31 · ·

The invention relates to a method for purifying a first fatty acid, in particular a first polyunsaturated fatty acid, using an initial mixture further comprising at least one second fatty acid and a third fatty acid, with the method comprising at least: a first step of chromatographic separation in liquid phase, using the initial mixture, making it possible to recover on the one hand a first flow enriched with a first fatty acid and on the other hand a flow enriched with a second fatty acid; a second step of chromatographic separation in liquid phase, using the first flow enriched with a first fatty acid, making it possible to recover on the one hand a second flow enriched with a first fatty acid and on the other hand a flow enriched with a third fatty acid, with the second step of chromatographic separation being carried out in a static bed chromatographic separation unit.

Novel type of extraction cell for a centrifugal partition chromatograph, as well as a centrifugal partition chromatograph containing such an extraction cell
20170296943 · 2017-10-19 · ·

The object of the invention relates to an extraction cell (100) used in a centrifugal partition chromatograph, which has a cell wall (120) determining a closed extraction chamber (150), as well as an inlet (115) and an outlet (140) ensuring the fluid connection between the extraction chamber (150) and the space outside of the extraction cell (100) formed on essentially opposite parts of the cell wall (120).

The extraction cell (100) according to the invention is constructed asymmetrically from the point of view of the reversibility of the direction of flow used when the centrifugal partition chromatograph is in operation.

3D printed modular centrifugal contactors and method for separating moieties using 3D printed optimized surfaces
09744476 · 2017-08-29 · ·

The present invention provides an annular centrifugal contactor, having a housing to receive a plurality of liquids; a rotor inside the housing; an annular mixing zone, with a plurality of fluid retention reservoirs; and an adjustable stem that can be raised to restrict the flow of a liquid into the rotor or lowered to increase the flow of liquid into the rotor. The invention also provides a method for transferring moieties from a first liquid to a second liquid, the method having the steps of combining the fluids in a housing whose interior has helically shaped first channels; subjecting the fluids to a spinning rotor to produce a mixture, whereby the channels simultaneously conduct the mixture downwardly and upwardly; and passing the mixture through the rotor to contact second channels, whereby the channels pump the second liquid through a first aperture while the first fluid exits a second aperture.

Arsenic removal system

A system is provided for removing arsenic from water to safe levels at or below the EPA standards. The system is a hybrid spouted vessel/fixed bed filter system that significantly enhances/improves arsenic removal for drinking water using zero-valent iron (ZVI) particles. Movement of the circulating, iron-containing particles in a dense moving bed that forms on the spouted vessel bottom creates an abrasive “self-polishing” action among them that continuously generates colloidal iron corrosion products. This material then circulates with the water in the vessel and is removed and concentrated in a fixed bed filter. The colloidal material captured and immobilized in the filter has been shown to remove arsenic from contaminated water at very rapid rates.

Heated chromatographic separation process

The present invention provides a chromatographic separation process for recovering a polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) product from a feed mixture, which process comprises passing the feed mixture through one or more chromatographic columns containing, as eluent, an aqueous organic solvent, wherein the temperature of at least one of the chromatographic columns through which the feed mixture is passed is greater than room temperature.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PRESERVATION, TRANSPORT, AND ANALYSIS OF WATER SAMPLES

A device for collecting contaminants from water samples is provided. The device includes a solid sorbent that collects and stores the contaminants from water samples. The solid sorbent is configured to allow for the preservation of the stored contaminants. The concentrations of the contaminants in the water samples are determined via analysis of the solid sorbent or via elution of the stored contaminants from the sorbent and analysis of the eluate solution.
