SEPARATION METHOD USING AN ION EXCHANGER AND A DRAW SOLUTION COMPRISING ADSORBER PARTICLES
A method for separating ionic species from an analyte solution to form a fractionated sample, the method comprising contacting the analyte solution with an ion-exchanger that is selectively permeable to ionic species of either a positive or negative charge, contacting an opposing side of the ion-exchanger with a draw solution, wherein the draw solution comprises adsorber particles dispersed in a liquid carrier, establishing a concentration gradient across the ion-exchanger to allow at least some ionic species from the analyte solution to permeate through the ion-exchanger to the draw solution, adsorbing ionic species that permeate from the analyte solution onto the adsorber particles, separating adsorber particles having the ionic species adsorbed thereto from at least part of the draw solution, and eluting the ionic species from the separated adsorber particles to form a fractionated analyte sample comprising eluted ionic species.
ON-BOARD SEPARATION OF OXYGENATES FROM FUELS
Methods for separation of oxygenates or other chemical components from fuels using chemical processes and separations including, but not limited to, onboard applications in vehicles. These separations may take place using a variety of materials and substances whereby a target material of interest is captured, held, and then released at a desired location and under desired conditions. In one set of experiments we demonstrated an enhancement in the separation of diaromatics by >38 times over gasoline and aromatics by >3.5 times over gasoline. This would give an advantage to reducing cold-start emissions, or emissions during transient conditions, in either gasoline or diesel.
Metal ion extraction from brines
A material includes a porous particle that includes a metal ion imprinted polymer. The metal ion imprinted polymer is formed from a hydrophilic co-monomer, a metal containing polymerizable compound, and a cross-linking agent. The metal containing polymerizable compound includes at least one metal chelating ligand. The metal ion imprinted polymer includes a plurality of metal ion selective binding sites. A method includes flowing brine containing a metal ion through a reactor that includes the material. The method further includes discharging the brine from the reactor, contacting the porous particles with water, and pressurizing the reactor with carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide reacts with the adsorbed metal ions to form a metal carbonate solution. The method further includes depressurizing the reactor to precipitate metal carbonate from the metal carbonate solution and discharging the metal carbonate solution from the reactor.
Methods and apparatus for clarification of pyrolysis oils
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for processing to improve the properties of pyrolysis oil and, as a result, the commercial value of the same. The net result is creation of an oil with a much lighter color in lieu of the black color, reducing or elimination the undesired sulfury/amine aroma and reducing the amount of PAH which is believed to be a carcinogen.
PROCESS AND SYSTEM FOR DEHYDRATING A BYPRODUCT STREAM IN ETHANOL PRODUCTION
The present disclosure provides processes and systems for dehydrating a byproduct stream in ethanol production. In one embodiment, a feed mixture is distilled with one or more distillation units to remove at least a portion of the water, and form a first byproduct stream. The first byproduct stream is contacted with a molecular sieve unit, thereby forming a product stream. The molecular sieve unit is cyclically contacted with at least a portion of the product stream to regenerate the molecular sieve unit and form one or more regenerate streams. A second byproduct stream including at least one of (1) the regenerate streams and (2) at least a portion of the fusel oil stream is contacted with a separation system, thereby forming a permeate and a retentate. At least a portion of the retentate is forwarded into the product stream.
In situ restoration of apatite-based chromatography resins
Methods and compositions are provided for treatment of an apatite-based resin from which retained solutes have been eluted by an elution buffer that contains an alkali metal salt with solutions of calcium ion, phosphate ion, and hydroxide separately from any sample loading and elution buffers. The treatment solutions restore the resin, reversing the deterioration that is caused by the alkali metal salt in the elution buffer.
LITHIUM EXTRACTION ENHANCED BY AN ALTERNATE PHASE
The present invention relates to the extraction of lithium from liquid resources such as natural and synthetic brines, leachate solutions from clays and minerals, and recycled products with the assistance of an alternate phase.
A PROCESS FOR THE PURIFICATION OF FLUORINATED OLEFINS
The present invention relates to a process for the purification of fluorinated olefins, in particular hexafluoro-1,3-butadiene, comprising a step wherein a liquid mixture comprising hexafluoro-1,3-butadiene in liquid phase is contacted with at least one adsorbent having an average pore size of less than 10 .
Modified acid compositions as alternatives to conventional acids in the oil and gas industry
An aqueous modified acid composition for industrial activities, said composition comprising: an alkanolamine and strong acid in a molar ratio of not less than 1:15, preferably not less than 1:10; it can also further comprise a metal iodide or iodate. Said composition demonstrates advantages over known conventional acids and modified acids.
Apatite in-situ restoration
The present invention discloses methods of regenerating apatite surfaces, for example after purification of a target analyte.
