FILTER AND FLUID SEPARATION METHOD
Provided is a filter having either or both of a winding and a laminate that include a fiber-like absorbing material, wherein the fiber-like absorbing material has a base material and metal particles supported on the base material, and the diameter D of the fiber-like absorbing material, the void fraction of the winding or laminate, and the variation in the area void fraction in the radial direction of the winding or the variation in the area void fraction in the direction of lamination are in a specific range.
Extraction of target materials using CZTS sorbent
Various embodiments disclosed relate to extraction of target materials using a CZTS sorbent. A method of extracting a target material from a medium includes contacting a copper zinc tin sulfur (CZTS) sorbent with the target material in the medium including the target material to form a used CZTS sorbent that includes the target material. The method also includes separating the used CZTS sorbent from the medium.
Self-indicating colorimetric response materials for removal and sensing of toxic chemicals and narcotics
Processes, compositions, and sensors for sensing a variety of toxic chemicals based on colorimetric changes. Exemplary process for sensing a toxic chemical includes contacting a toxic chemical, or byproduct thereof, with a sorbent that includes a porous metal hydroxide or a porous mixed-metal oxide/hydroxide and a transition metal reactant suitable to react with a toxic chemical or byproduct thereof. The sorbent is contacted with the toxic chemical or byproduct thereof for a sampling time. A difference between a post-exposure colorimetric state of the sorbent and a pre-exposure colorimetric state of the sorbent is determined to thereby detect exposure to, or the presence of, the toxic chemical or byproduct thereof.
SEPARATION METHOD FOR HALOGENATED UNSATURATED CARBON COMPOUND
The method according to this disclosure is a method for separating an unsaturated hydrocarbon having 2 or 3 carbon atoms and a halogenated unsaturated carbon compound formed by replacing at least one of hydrogen atoms included in the unsaturated hydrocarbon with a fluorine atom, from each other and is a method for selectively adsorbing either the unsaturated hydrocarbon or the halogenated unsaturated carbon compound by a porous coordination polymer that includes a metallic ion having a valence of 2 to 4 and an aromatic anion having 1 to 6 aromatic ring(s).
PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF COPPER SULFIDE
A process for preparing a copper sulfide of the formula Cu.sub.xS.sub.y, wherein the process comprises the following steps: (i) reacting an aqueous solution of a copper salt with a molar excess of a sulfiding agent so as to precipitate copper sulfide from the solution; (ii) isolating the copper sulfide precipitate from the reaction mixture; and (iii) drying the copper sulfide precipitate at a temperature of less than 100 C., wherein x and y are integer or non-integer values.
NEW FORM OF COPPER SULFIDE
Copper sulfide of the formula Cu.sub.xS.sub.y, wherein x and y are integer or non-integer values, wherein (i) the copper sulfide has a sulfur 2p XPS spectrum with peaks at 162.3 eV (1 ev), 163.8 eV (1 ev) and 68.5 eV (1 ev), characterised in that the peak at 168.5 eV has a lower value of counts per second (CPS) than both the peak at 162.3 eV and the peak at 163.8 eV; and (ii) the copper sulfide has a copper 2p XPS spectrum with peaks at 932.0 eV (2ev) and 933.6 eV (3eV) and characterised in that the XPS spectrum does not comprise identifiable satellite peaks at 939.8 eV and 943.1 eV (3 eV).
SORBENT COMPOSITION FOR AN ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATOR
Powdery calcium-magnesium compound, sorbent composition based on calcium-magnesium for being used in flue gas treatment, compatible with electrostatic precipitators and process for reducing the resistivity of a powdery sorbent composition for flue gas treatment installation comprising an electrostatic precipitator.
Modification of iron-based media for water treatment
Methods of modification of zero-valent iron (ZVI) to improve its performance in removing contaminants from a discharge stream. In some aspects, the methods include contacting ZVI-impregnated disks with solutions containing metal cations such as Ni.sup.2+, Cu.sup.2+, Fe.sup.2+, or Pd.sup.2+. In some aspects, a wastewater stream is treated with a metal cation solution, then passed over ZVI. Compositions for treating wastewater include ZVI that is modified with a metal cation solution.
METHOD OF MAKING A MERCURY SORBENT
Methods of preparing a mercury sorbent material are provided. The methods comprise making a copper/clay mixture by admixing a dry clay and a dry copper source; making a sulfur/clay mixture by admixing a dry clay and a dry sulfur source; admixing the copper/clay mixture and the sulfur/clay mixture, to form a mercury sorbent premixture; and shearing the mercury sorbent pre-mixture to form the mercury sorbent material. Various substrates may be used with or instead of the clay, and various additives may be added to the copper, sulfur, clay, or mixture thereof.
