SUPER-ABSORBENT POLYMER AND METHOD FOR PREPARING SAME
The present invention relates to a super-absorbent polymer having excellent properties, both centrifugal retention capacity (CRC) and absorption under pressure (AUP) having been improved by introducing a surface crosslinked layer crosslinked by surface-modified inorganic particles, and to a method for preparing the same. The super-absorbent polymer comprises: a base resin powder containing a crosslinked polymer of water-soluble ethylene-based unsaturated monomers having an at least partially neutralized acidic group; and a surface crosslinked layer formed on the base resin powder, wherein inorganic particles may be chemically bound to the crosslinked polymer contained in the surface crosslinked layer, via an oxygen-containing bond or a nitrogen-containing bond.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR SPECIMEN PROCESSING AND STORAGE
A method including receiving a specimen comprising a carrier, a first target species, and a first component and storing at least a portion of the carrier and the first target species in a storage media by self-driven filtering of the specimen in the storage media, wherein the storage media comprises porous superabsorbent polymer (PSAP) beads. The PSAP beads provide for fast and self-driven microfiltration of biofluid samples. The treatment effectively separates small analytical targets (e.g., glucose, catalase, and bacteriophage) and large undesired components (e.g., bacteria and blood cells) in the biofluids by capturing the former inside and excluding the latter outside the PSAP beads. The treatment can reduce sample volume, self-aliquot the liquid sample, avoid microbial contamination, separate plasma from blood cells, stabilize target species inside the beads, and enable long-term storage at room temperature.
CERIUM OXIDE PARTICLES AND METHOD FOR PRODUCTION THEREOF
The present invention relates to cerium oxide particles that have excellent heat resistance especially useful for catalysts, functional ceramics, solid electrolyte for fuel cells, polishing, ultraviolet absorbers and the like, and particularly suitable for use as a catalyst or co-catalyst material, for instance in catalysis for purifying vehicle exhaust gas. The present invention also relates to a method for preparing such cerium oxide particles, and a catalyst, such as for purifying exhaust gas, utilizing these cerium oxide particles.
Metal adsorption acrylic fiber, non-woven fabric, sheet-like product, and uses thereof as metal adsorbent
A metal adsorption acrylic fiber wherein the strontium adsorption rate is 85% or more when the strontium adsorption rate is measured using the following measurement method. A strontium adsorption rate measurement method (strontium 0.1 ppm measurement method) involves immersing a metal adsorption acrylic fiber into an immersion fluid, collecting the immersion fluid as a testing solution 24 hours after beginning the immersion, analyzing the quantity of strontium in the testing solution, obtaining the concentration (C.sub.1) (ppm) of strontium in the testing solution, creating a contrast solution, analyzing the quantity of strontium in the contrast solution as in the case with the testing solution, obtaining the concentration (C.sub.2) (ppm) of strontium in the contrast solution, and calculating the strontium adsorption rate of the metal adsorption acrylic fiber by using the following equation: strontium adsorption rate (%)={(C.sub.2−C.sub.1)/C.sub.2}×100.
POROUS MATERIALS COMPRISING METAL OXIDES AND THE USE THEREOF
A material, such as a flexible sheet, including a metal or metal alloy, wherein the metal or metal alloy has at least one porous metal oxide layer thereon. In some examples, the at least one metal oxide layer has a three-dimensional disordered network of channels in which the pores have non-constant diameters. Methods of preparing the materials are also disclosed.
