Porous fiber and adsorption column
The present invention provides: a porous fiber that exhibits both improved adsorption capacity, and suppressed exposure and detachment of particulates; an adsorption column filled with said porous fiber; and a blood purification system in which an adsorption column is connected to a water removal column. The porous fiber according to the present invention has a three-dimensional pore structure formed by a solid fiber, and satisfies all of the following conditions. (1) The porous fiber has particulates having a diameter of not more than 200 μm, and the percentage of area occupied by said particulates having a diameter of not more than 200 μm in a horizontal cross section of the three-dimensional pore structure is at least 3.0%. (2) The porous fiber does not contain said particulates having a diameter of not more than 200 μm in the region within 1.0 μm in the depth direction from the outermost surface.
Nanostructured iron/carbon for scavenging oxygen
The invention is directed to a nanostructured composite material comprising a mixture of at least one metal particle such as iron and a carbon material from biomass such as D-glucose, D-glucosamine hydrochloride or a-cyclodextrin. The invention is also directed to a composition comprising the composite material comprising the composite material and an inorganic salt, and a method for synthesizing the composite material comprising immersing the carbon material into a solution of metal ions, drying the impregnated carbon particle and subjecting the impregnated carbon particle to a carbothermal reduction process. The nanostructured composite material is useful as an oxygen scavenging layer in a multi-layer film which comprises the oxygen scavenging layer and an oxygen barrier layer that retards the permeation of oxygen from an external environment.
GRAVITY-DRIVEN CHITOSAN-ENHANCED MELAMINE SPONGE FOR STABLE ULTRAFAST FILTRATION
Devices and methods related to a chitosan-enhanced melamine sponge are provided. A method comprises grafting chitosan on the melamine sponge matrix via the chemical with two or more carboxyl groups; and crosslinking the chitosan with crosslinker under a heating procedure to make a more robust melamine sponge with a larger surface and smaller pores. The chitosan-enhanced melamine sponge is used to separate chemicals from water as a gravity flow-driven filter, and it can be compressed and backwashed for regeneration.
COLUMN FILLER FOR LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY
The present invention provides a column filler for liquid chromatography that has a great adsorption capacity, adjustable adsorption selectivity, and high shape retainability and therefore is usable for measurement of various substances and capable of achieving excellent separation performance and a high filling rate in a column when used as a column filler for liquid chromatography. Provided is a column filler for liquid chromatography including carbon-coated porous particles, the carbon-coated porous particles including porous particles each having a coating layer containing an amorphous carbon on a surface.
Methods of using thermally expanded graphite to remove proteins from blood and to treat sepsis
The present disclosure is directed to methods of removing proteins, including cytokines, from blood and blood products, the methods comprising contacting the blood or blood product with a form of carbon having high graphitic contents and slit-shaped mesopores and macropores, the pore size dimensions chosen to be comparable to the size of the proteins, wherein the contacting results in the removal of high levels of the protein from the blood or blood product in minutes or hours.
Molded article
To provide a molded article which can have excellent strength, can also have high durability during repeated use, and can maintain high adsorption performance even when the content of a binder resin is reduced. A molded article containing cerium oxide particles and a binder resin, wherein cerium oxide particles which has an average particle diameter of 1 to 15 μm and in each of which a crystallite size is 40 to 200 Å are used.
Method for producing three-dimensional ordered porous microstructure and monolithic column produced thereby
The present invention relates to a method for producing a three-dimensional ordered porous microstructure. In the method of the invention where the three-dimensional ordered microstructure is produced using the colloidal crystal templating process, the three-dimensional ordered microstructure thus formed is subjected to heat treatment to soften the particles, so as to effectively increase the contact between orderly arranged particles while removing the solvent used to suspend the particles. The present invention further relates to a monolithic column produced thereby. Compared to the monolithic columns produced by conventional methods, the monolithic column according to the invention is characterized in having a higher aspect ratio and a higher pore regularity, while the connecting pores in the column are relatively large in pore size.
Elastic macro porous scaffold and a process for the preparation thereof
The present invention discloses elastic macro porous scaffold and a process for the preparation thereof. The present invention also provides a process for the preparation of macroporous, elastic nano particulate scaffolds comprising of coated or grafted cross linkable nanoparticles, and a crosslinker prepared by crosslinking during ice templating, wherein the modulus increases linearly with temperature.
Chromatographic materials
In one aspect, the present invention provides a chromatographic stationary phase material for various different modes of chromatography represented by Formula 1: [X](W).sub.a(Q).sub.b(T).sub.c (Formula 1). X can be a high purity chromatographic core composition having a surface comprising a silica core material, metal oxide core material, an inorganic-organic hybrid material or a group of block copolymers thereof. W can be absent and/or can include hydrogen and/or can include a hydroxyl on the surface of X. Q can be a functional group that minimizes retention variation over time (drift) under chromatographic conditions utilizing low water concentrations. T can include one or more hydrophilic, polar, ionizable, and/or charged functional groups that chromatographically interact with the analyte. Additionally, b and c can be positive numbers, with the ratio 0.05≤(b/c)≤100, and a≥0.
