IMPROVED HLB COPOLYMERS

Polymeric adsorbents useful for solid phase extraction (SPE) comprising a copolymer formed by copolymerizing at least one hydrophobic monomer including divinylbenzene and at least one hydrophilic monomer including acrylonitrile. Also provided are SPE cartridges including a divinylbenzene-acrylonitrile hydrophilic-lipophilic balance adsorbent. Further provides are methods of using a divinylbenzene-acrylonitrile hydrophilic-lipophilic balance adsorbent in conventional and simplified SPE techniques.

SURFACTANT-TEMPLATED SYNTHESIS OF NANOSTRUCTURED XEROGEL ADSORBENT PLATFORMS

A process for separations and recovery from mixtures via specific adsorption using high-surface area, flexible silica-based nanostructured gel adsorbents and articles of manufacture relating to same.

Microporous hydrogels

The invention relates to a porous hydrogel matrix having substantially interconnected tunnel-shaped micropores with a three-dimensional configuration of an interconnected hollow tetrapod network. Such matrices may be used to entrap motile cells that migrate into the micropores of said matrix. The matrices of the invention are formed by a method comprising the steps of providing a solution of a hydrogel-forming material, providing a template material with a three-dimensional configuration corresponding to the negative configuration of the desired interconnected porous structure of the hydrogel material, said template material comprising interconnected zinc oxide tetrapod (t-ZnO) networks, casting the solution of hydrogel-forming material onto the template and removing the template material from the hydrogel material by acid hydrolysis of the template material.

Super Absorbent Polymer and Method for Preparing Same

The present invention relates to a super absorbent polymer. The super absorbent polymer contains polymer particles formed of large pores in a certain amount or more, and thus can exhibit large surface area and excellent initial absorption capacity. Therefore, when the super absorbent polymer is used, it can provide a sanitary material such as a diaper or a sanitary napkin which can quickly absorb body fluids and impart a dry and soft touch feeling.

Nanoporous Superabsorbent Particles

Superabsorbent particles having a median size of from about 50 to about 2,000 micrometers and containing nanopores having an average cross-sectional dimension of from about 10 to about 500 nanometers are provided. The superabsorbent particles exhibit a Vortex Time of about 80 seconds or less.

Separation of nitrogen from hydrocarbon gas using pyrolyzed sulfonated macroporous ion exchange resin

A method for separating N.sub.2 from a hydrocarbon gas mixture containing N.sub.2 comprising the steps of: i) providing a bed of adsorbent selective for N.sub.2; (ii) passing the hydrocarbon gas mixture through the bed of adsorbent to at least partially remove N.sub.2 from the gas mixture to produce: (a) N.sub.2-loaded adsorbent and (b) N.sub.2-depleted hydrocarbon gas mixture; iii) recovering the N.sub.2-depleted hydrocarbon gas mixture; iv) regenerating the N.sub.2-loaded adsorbent by at least partially removing N.sub.2 from the adsorbent; and v) sequentially repeating steps (ii) and (iii) using regenerated adsorbent from step (iv); wherein the adsorbent comprises a pyrolized sulfonated macroporous ion exchange resin.
