A fixed bed reactor system for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane, comprising a catalyst bed wherein the catalyst capacity profile increases along the length of catalyst bed from the upstream end to the downstream end. The catalyst bed may include one or more sections, across one or more fixed bed reactors, that are identified by a change in catalyst capacity. Catalyst capacity, or the ability to convert ethane into ethylene, may be altered by changing the dilution ratio, void fraction, and or the 35% conversion temperature. A method for loading a fixed bed reactor with an increasing catalyst capacity is also described.

A reverse flow reactor (RFR) and process having a forward reaction feed cycle, a reverse reaction feed cycle, and a reverse regeneration cycle. The heat convected in the forward feed cycle matches the heat convected in the reverse flow cycles. Compared to an RFR without the reverse feed cycle, the three-cycle RPR substantially reduces the regeneration air flow rate, associated compression requirements, and the overall reactor volume, that are required.

In a process for the production of ammonia synthesis gas from a hydrocarbon-containing feedstock, comprising steam reforming of the feedstock and treatment of the synthesis gas obtained, the shift of the synthesis gas comprises two shift steps, both including stable catalysts, whereby the formation of hazardous by-products is avoided or at least reduced to an acceptable low level. The two shift steps can both be HTS, or they can be one HTS and one LTS or one HTS and one MTS. The catalyst used in the HTS and the LTS steps is based on zinc oxide and zinc aluminum spinel, and the catalyst used in the MTS and the LTS steps can be based on copper.

A catalyst regenerator according to an embodiment of the present invention, as a catalyst regenerator that regenerates a coked catalyst separated from a product produced in an endothermic catalytic reaction of a fluidized bed reactor, includes: a reaction chamber that includes a regeneration space, receives the coked catalyst from a standpipe connected to the regeneration space, and discharges a regenerated catalyst to an outlet; a fuel supplier that is connected to the reaction chamber to inject a fuel for combustion into the regeneration space; and a fuel supplier that is connected to the reaction chamber to inject an air for combustion into the regeneration space, wherein the fuel injected from the fuel supplier is a reformed fuel containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide.

The present invention discloses process and apparatus for the production of light olefins from their respective alkanes by catalytic dehydrogenation, where in the dehydrogenation reaction is carried out in multiple semi-continuously operated fluidized bed isothermal reactors, connected to a common regenerator and wherein the process is carried out in a sequence of steps in each cycle i.e., entry of hot regenerated catalyst, pre-treatment with reducing gas, dehydrogenation reaction, stripping, transfer of catalyst to regenerator and catalyst regeneration. Process cycle in each reactor starts at different times such that the catalyst inventory in the regenerator is invariable with time.
