SAMPLE MOUNTING PLATE AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME

A sample loading plate that includes at least one sample mounting spot that mount a sample thereon is provided with a substrate having a conductive surface and an insulating film that is laminated on the conductive surface of the substrate and that has at least an insulating surface, the insulating film being sparsely formed so that the conductive surface of the substrate is partially exposed at least in the sample mounting spot. Thus, a voltage applied to the sample loading plate can effectively place the sample in an electric field. As a result of which, in a mass spectrometric analysis of the sample, there is no charge up of the sample and appropriate ionization becomes possible.

Assays

A method includes forming a composition of matter including an amount of a reporter compound, a binding member capable of capturing the reporter compound, and an amount of a target nucleic acid capable of forming complexes with the reporter compound.

Microfabricated elastomeric valve and pump systems

A method of fabricating an elastomeric structure, comprising: forming a first elastomeric layer on top of a first micromachined mold, the first micromachined mold having a first raised protrusion which forms a first recess extending along a bottom surface of the first elastomeric layer; forming a second elastomeric layer on top of a second micromachined mold, the second micromachined mold having a second raised protrusion which forms a second recess extending along a bottom surface of the second elastomeric layer; bonding the bottom surface of the second elastomeric layer onto a top surface of the first elastomeric layer such that a control channel forms in the second recess between the first and second elastomeric layers; and positioning the first elastomeric layer on top of a planar substrate such that a flow channel forms in the first recess between the first elastomeric layer and the planar substrate.

Screening assays and methods

Screening assays and methods of performing such assays are provided. In certain examples, the assays and methods may be designed to determine whether or not two or more species can associate with each other. In some examples, the assays and methods may be used to determine if a known antigen binds to an unknown monoclonal antibody.

BIOFUNCTIONALIZED NANOSHELL IMMOBILIZED MICROARRAYS AND APPLICATIONS THEREOF

Microarray platforms and methods of fabricating said microarrays without traditional high aspect ratio barriers used to define individual array elements are described herein. Self-assembled nanoshells were stabilized with a polymerized scaffold to enhance the stability in physiological conditions and serve as an optical transducer upon molecular recognition events. Soft photolithography combined with surface chemistry was developed for covalent immobilization of nanoshells onto the pre-patterned arrayed microspots for rapid multiplexed detection of membrane-binding analytes. This robust fabrication methodology is amenable for general lipid structures, and thus facilitates the integration of stable membrane architectures into diagnostic and prognostic platforms. In particular, the microarray platform may be used in diverse applications ranging from the detection of pathogens, such bacterial toxin in biological matrices, to cellular membrane studies.

ARRAYS

Protein arrays and their use to assay, in a parallel fashion, the protein products of highly homologous or related DNA coding sequences and described. By highly homologous or related it is meant those DNA coding sequences which share a common sequence and which differ only by one or more naturally occurring mutations such as single nucleotide polymorphisms, deletions or insertions, or those sequences which are considered to be haplotypes. Such highly homologous or related DNA coding sequences are generally naturally occurring variants of the same gene. Arrays according to the invention have two or more individual proteins deposited in a spatially defined pattern on a surface in a form whereby a property such as an activity or function of the proteins can be investigated or assayed in parallel by interrogation of the array.

Recognizable carrier for optical measurement methods

The invention relates to a recognizable carrier for determining physical, chemical or biochemical interactions by means of optical measurement methods. The carrier comprises a surface that defines a substrate surface and that has a base layer coated with reactive elements, which are bonded to receptor molecules, wherein the base layer and/or the reactive elements are provided with a pattern of holes which forms a code and/or the reactive elements are provided with linker molecules or markers which form a code. The substrate surface may additionally have a macroscopically planar pattern which is applied using laser light or chemical etching and forms a code. The invention likewise relates to a method for producing a recognizable carrier for spectroscopic processes and/or intensiometric tests to determine said interactions. The code to recognize the carrier can be controlled via a read-out unit coupled to the photometric analysis unit. Such a carrier can be used to analyze biomolecules during security checks, access controls or in-vitro diagnostics.
