Provided is a multilayer coating film comprising an effect base coating film and a colored base coating film formed on the effect base coating film, wherein when X=[(C*45).sup.2+(C*75).sup.2].sup.1/2 and Y=[(L*15).sup.2+(C*15).sup.2].sup.1/2+[(L*25).sup.2+(C*25).sup.2].sup.1/2, X is 80 or more and Y is 145 or more (wherein C*15, C*25, C*45, and C*75 represent chroma values calculated from spectral reflectances of light illuminated at an incident angle of 45 degrees and received at light-receiving angles of 15 degrees, 25 degrees, 45 degrees, and 75 degrees deviated from specular reflection light to the side closer to the incident light; and L*15 and L*25 represent lightness values when light illuminated at an incident angle of 45 degrees is received at light-receiving angles of 15 degrees and 25 degrees deviated from specular reflection light to the side closer to the incident light).
MULTI-LAYER COATING FILM AND MULTI-LAYER COATING FILM FORMATION METHOD
Provided is a multilayer coating film comprising a colored base coating film and an effect base coating film formed on the colored base coating film, wherein the hue angle h in the L*C*h color space diagram is within the range of 30° to 70°, and when the following formulas hold: X=[(C*45).sup.2+(C*75) .sup.2].sup.1/2, and Y=[(L*15).sup.2+(C*15).sup.2].sup.1/2+[(L*25).sup.2+(C*25).sup.2].sup.1/2, X is 80 or more and Y is 140 or more; provided that C*15, C*25, C*45, and C*75 represent the chroma of the multilayer coating film when light is illuminated at an angle of 45 degrees and received at angles of 15 degrees, 25 degrees, 45 degrees, and 75 degrees deviated from the specular reflection light in the incident light direction, and L*15 and L*25 similarly represent the lightness of the multilayer coating film.
VEHICLE COATING STRUCTURE
Provided is a vehicle coating structure formed on a surface of a base plate of an exterior member of a vehicle. The vehicle coating structure includes: a coating layer formed on the surface of the base plate of the exterior member; a peelable layer formed on a surface of the coating layer or the surface of the base plate, the peelable layer having peelability; and a transparent matte layer formed on a surface of the peelable layer, the transparent matte layer being made of a transparent matte coating material.
Method for coating the visible surfaces of motor vehicle wheel rims
In a method for coating motor vehicle wheel rims, a polymer priming layer, a polymer intermediate layer, a decorative layer of a heat-cured polymer layer with embedded flake-like metal pigments covering the visible surface of the decorative layer, and a polymer cover layer are consecutively applied to the wheel rim metal surface. The coated wheel rims achieve a polished metal appearance by producing the polymer intermediate layer with a high-gloss surface and applying the decorative layer to the high-gloss surface of the polymer intermediate layer in the wet spraying method with a layer thickness of max. 2 μm, where it is dried at ambient temperature and, before applying the polymer cover layer, it is fixed to the polymer intermediate layer via a thermal post-treatment so that it adheres to the surface thereof with a cross-cut pull-off strength of Gt=0 to Gt=2.
BEVERAGE CANS WITH SURFACE OBSCURING COATINGS
This disclosure describes systems, methods, and apparatus for decorating a can comprising a base, a curvilinear side surface extending in an upward direction from the base and comprising a neck and flanged portion, wherein the base and curvilinear side surface are formed using a metallic material, and at least one layer each of a first ink and a first overvarnish applied on at least a portion of the curvilinear side surface. The method further comprises surface treating the curvilinear side surface to increase a surface energy of the first overvarnish, applying one or more layers of an obscurant coating to the portion of the curvilinear side surface, wherein the portion may or may not include the neck and flanged portion, applying one or more layers of a second overvarnish and/or second ink to the portion of the curvilinear surface of the can, and curing the can.
CORROSION PROTECTION FOR METALLIC SUBSTRATES
A tiecoat coating composition for use in a coating system for a metallic substrate comprising at least three coating layers is disclosed. The system has a primer coating layer which overlies the metallic substrate, a tiecoat coating layer which overlies the primer coating layer, and a finish coating layer which overlies the tiecoat coating layer. The primer coating layer is formed from a primer composition, the tiecoat coating layer is formed from a tiecoat composition, and the finish coating layer is formed from a finish composition. The primer composition comprises a primer carrier medium and a primer corrosion inhibitor in which the primer inhibitor has a galvanic cathodic mechanism. The finish composition is formulated to give a predetermined surface texture and appearance. The tiecoat composition comprises a tiecoat carrier medium and a tiecoat corrosion inhibitor. The tiecoat corrosion inhibitor has a barrier mechanism.

PANELS COMPRISING A STRUCTURED LACQUER SURFACE
The present disclosure relates to a panel comprising a structured lacquer surface, having a base panel, a melamine resin layer, an adhesion promoter layer and a lacquer-containing top coat, the melamine resin layer being provided on a surface of the base layer, the adhesion promoter layer being provided on the melamine resin layer and the lacquer-containing top coat being provided on the adhesion promoter layer, the lacquer-containing top coat being structured. The disclosure also relates to a method for producing a panel of this type with a structured lacquer surface.
AQUEOUS COATING COMPOSITION
The present invention provides an aqueous coating composition which is capable of forming a coating film that has excellent cissing resistance and water resistance. An aqueous coating composition which contains (A) at least one hydroxyl group-containing resin that is selected from among (A1) hydroxyl group-containing acrylic resins and (A2) hydroxyl group-containing polyester resins, (B) an oligomer and (C) an alkyl etherified melamine resin, wherein: the oligomer (B) has a number average molecular weight within the range of from 200 to 800 and a solubility parameter within the range of from 10.0 to 13.5; and the molar ratio of methyl groups to butyl groups in the alkyl etherified melamine resin (C), namely (methyl group)/(butyl group) molar ratio is from 50/50 to 0/100.
COATING COMPOSITIONS AND SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF APPLYING SUCH COATING COMPOSITIONS
A coating composition for precision application includes: a coating composition including a film-forming resin dispersed in an aqueous medium; a crosslinker reactive with the film-forming resin; a rheology modifier; a colorant; and a swelling solvent that swells the film-forming resin. The solids content of the coating composition is less than 25 weight %, based on the total weight of the coating composition. A system and method for precision application of a coating composition over at least a portion of a substrate are also disclosed. A substrate coated with a multi-layer coating system is also disclosed.
