Casting nozzle

A casting nozzle suited to manufacture a casting material of pure magnesium or magnesium alloy is provided. A nozzle is utilized to manufacture a casting material by supplying molten metal to a portion between rolls which become a casting die, and arranged so that a pouring port is located between a pair of rolls opposed to other. This nozzle includes a main body formed of oxide material such as alumina, and a coating layer which is provided on the inner surface of the main body which comes into contact the molten metal, and formed of material that does not include oxygen substantially. Since the main body does not come into direct contact with the molten metal due to the coating layer, it is possible to prevent oxygen included in the main body from reacting with the molten metal. Further, in the nozzle, a casting die contact portion which comes into contact with the rollers is formed of thermal insulation material, whereby it is prevented that the molten metal in the nozzle is cooled through the casting die contact portion by the rollers.

Production of metallic glass by melt deposition

Methods and apparatus for forming high aspect ratio metallic glass, including metallic glass sheet and tube, by a melt deposition process are provided. In some methods and apparatus a molten alloy is deposited inside a tubular channel formed by two concentrically arranged substrates, and shaped and quenched by conduction to the substrates in a manner that enables the molten alloy to vitrify prior to undergoing substantial shear flow. The deposition method allows the molten alloy to be deposited and formed while being quenched, without undergoing substantial shear flow.

Process For In-Line Mechanically Scribing Of Amorphous Foil For Magnetic Domain Alignment And Core Loss Reduction

The invention relates to the reduction of core losses in soft magnetic applications utilizing amorphous foil as the core material. Amorphous foil is known to have lower losses when compared to crystalline silicon steel laminations. It is found that a reduction of 10-40% of losses can be achieved over the current state of the art amorphous material by mechanical scribing of the surface of the soft magnetic laminations comprising the wound core in power conditioning devices such as a transformer. The scribing process introduces control of the magnetic domains causing ease of magnetic flux reversal.

THIN METAL STRIP CONTINUOUS CASTING METHOD USING MOMENTUM FLOW DISTRIBUTION

A thin metal strip continuous casting method using momentum flow distribution, comprising the steps of: adjusting the position of a flow distribution device (2), and starting a double-roller thin strip continuous casting apparatus; molten metal (3) forming a uniform sheet-shaped molten metal flow (4) having an initial momentum after the molten metal (3) passes through the flow distribution device; the sheet-shaped molten metal flow entering a molten pool (5) at a superheat degree of 50-100 C. and an initial velocity of 0.5-2 m/s, wherein the flow distribution device is spaced apart from the molten pool; under the action of the initial velocity of the molten metal and in the molten pool, forming a whirlpool, which is adjacent to surfaces of two cooling rollers and has a momentum stirring action; and completing the solidification of the molten metal under the momentum stirring action of the whirlpool along with the rotation of the two cooling rollers. In the method, a whirlpool, which is adjacent to surfaces of cooling rollers and has a momentum stirring action, is formed in a molten pool by means of the kinetic energy of molten metal, such that equiaxed crystals can be prepared when a superheat degree is as high as 50-100 C., and the proportion of equiaxed crystals can be increased to 100%, thereby refining crystal grains and alleviating segregation.

In one embodiment, a lead strip caster for battery grids includes a ladle, a nozzle, and a pair of rollers. The lead strip caster produces a continuous lead strip for use as battery positive plate grids. The ladle has an inlet to receive molten lead and has an outlet. The nozzle has at least one passage that communicates with the outlet of the ladle in order to receive molten lead from the ladle. The first roller is situated at a first exterior side of the nozzle. The first roller rotates via a first driver. The second roller is situated at a second exterior side of the nozzle. The second roller rotates via a second driver.
