METHOD FOR CASTING METAL STRIP WITH CROWN CONTROL
A method and apparatus of continuously casting thin strip by controlling roll crown is provided. The apparatus for continuously casting thin strip by controlling roll crown includes at least two expansion rings positioned within and adjacent a cylindrical tube and spaced within 450 mm of edge portions of the cast strip formed on opposite end portions of casting rolls during a casting campaign. Alternatively or in addition, the apparatus includes at least one expansion ring within the cylindrical tube at a position corresponding to center portions of the cast strip formed on the casting rolls during a casting campaign. Each expansion ring has at least one heating element and an insulating coating thereon and is adapted to increase in radial dimension causing the cylindrical tube to expand changing roll crown of the casting surfaces of the casting rolls and thickness profile of the cast strip during casting.
Strip Casting
A continuous casting apparatus and method is disclosed for casting a metal strip with a cross sectional form which varies along the length of the strip. The apparatus comprises: opposing cooling means; a molten metal feed system positionable to provide a molten metal feed for solidification between the opposing cooling means to form a solidified metal strip along a length direction; and a form adjustment system. The form adjustment system comprises at least one dam to determine, at least in part, the cross sectional form of the molten metal feed to the opposing cooling means. In this way, it is possible to determine the cross sectional form of the solidified metal strip. The dam is moveable during operation of the apparatus to vary the cross sectional form of the molten metal feed to the opposing cooling means. The apparatus further comprises a molten metal pressure control system, operable to control the pressure of the molten metal in the molten metal feed during operation of the apparatus in coordination with movement of the dam. Optionally, the dam acts as a diverter, operational to divert the flow of molten metal to form an opening in the cast strip.
SURFACE TREATMENT METHOD AND CASTING ROLL MANUFACTURED BY THE SAME
A surface treatment method capable of preventing a surface defect by improving a surface shape determining surface roughness of a casting roll and a casting roll manufactured by the surface treatment method, are provided. A surface treatment method includes a concave-convex pattern forming operation of forming a concave-convex pattern on a surface of a casting roll; and an electrolytic polishing operation of electrolytically polishing so that a plurality of convex portions and concave portions of a concave-convex pattern formed in the concave-convex pattern forming operation are treated to be rounded.
Back-up roll device and method for conducting corner deformation on chamfered continuous casting slab
A back-up roll device and method for conducting corner deformation on a chamfered continuous casting slab. The back-up roll device includes back-up rolls with -angle bevels, movable bearing seats, bearing seat moving rails, bearing seat motion holding mechanisms and inner arc or outer arc frames of a casting machine. The back-up rolls are arranged on the inner and/or outer arc frames of the horizontal segment of the casting machine. Support surfaces of the back-up rolls make contact with and squeeze smaller obtuse angles adjacent to the wide face of the inner or outer arc on the chamfered continuous casting slab, and therefore each smaller obtuse angle is squeezed into two larger obtuse angles. The back-up roll device and method for conducting corner deformation on the chamfered casting slab can achieve the purposes of eliminating edge slivers.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR TREATING SURFACE OF STRIP CASTING TWIN ROLL
An apparatus for treating a surface of a strip casting twin roll includes: a laser machining unit configured to form dimple patterns on a surface of a rotating casting roll using a laser; a machining region processing unit, wherein if the casting roll is rotated by a critical angle, the machining region processing unit calculates a size and a position of a machining region, in which a dimple pattern will be formed, based on image information obtained by imaging the machining region; and a laser beam absorbing unit, wherein if the size of the machining region is smaller than a size of the dimple pattern, the laser beam absorbing unit places a screen at an overlap start position from which the machining region and the dimple pattern start to overlap each other, so as to absorb a laser beam emitted toward a peripheral region of the machining region.
SIDE DAM WITH POCKET
A side dam for a continuous twin roll caster with a body of refractory material shaped to form a side dam and having edge portions adapted to engage end portions of casting rolls of a twin roll caster and having a nip portion adapted to be adjacent a nip between the casting rolls and having upper portions extending across the side dam to form a lateral restraint for a casting pool of molten metal during operation in the twin roll caster; and a pocket between 5 and 50 mm in depth formed in the body between the edge portions and forming shoulder portions in the body between the edge portions and the pocket adapted to be worn as a casting campaign continues until the pocket is reached and continuing to be worn away at level of base portions of the pocket until casting is completed.
GALLING AND CORROSION RESISTANT INNER DIAMETER SURFACE IN ALUMINUM CASTER ROLL SHELL STEELS
A strip casting apparatus having a roll shell with a nitrided inner diameter surface mounted on a steel core and method of manufacturing the same. The inner diameter of a steel roll shell may be nitrided by ion or plasma nitriding. The nitriding process can form tight, crack free nitride layer that provides a corrosion resistant barrier and exhibits a surface hardness that is greater than the surface hardness of the steel core and that improves galling resistance while maintaining efficient heat transfer of the roll shell. After nitriding, the roll shell can be shrink fit over a steel core.
Casting roll for twin-roll strip caster
There are provided a casting roll of a twin-roll strip caster and a method for manufacturing a high-nitrogen duplex stainless steel strip having no dimple. The casting roll has an average roughness Ra of 10 m to 30 m, and diagonal fine grooves having a width of 50 m to 500 m, an interval of 100 m to 1000 m, and a depth of 50 m to 200 m are formed in the casting roll. The diagonal fine grooves are symmetrically intersecting each other at an angle of 30 to 70 with respect to circumferential direction of the casting roll.
BATTERY COMPONENT CONTINUOUS CASTING MACHINE WITH QUICK-CHANGE BELT CASTER WHEEL ASSEMBLY AND METHOD INVOLVING SAME
A battery component continuous casting machine is equipped with a quick-change belt caster wheel assembly. Battery components produced include lead-based metal grids for lead-acid battery types, as well as lead-based metal foils for bipolar battery types. Caster wheels of the quick-change belt caster wheel assembly are more readily installed and uninstalledmaking removal and replacement procedures easierwhile preserving precision tolerances often demanded for proper manufacture of the battery component grids and foils.
Release agent-free aluminium strip casting
A casting roller or belt for a revolving chill mould of a strip casting system is provided for the manufacture of an aluminium alloy strip. The strip casting system for manufacturing the aluminium alloy strip includes at least one such revolving chill mould with a casting gap. In the casting roller or belt of the strip casting system, adhesion to the casting roller or belt is avoided during strip casting, and a low-segregation and crack-free aluminium alloy strip can be produced under industrial conditions. This is achieved by utilizing a specific surface structure of the casting roller or belt in which a roughness value Sa is more than 5 m and an average peak count RPc (0.5 m) is less than 42 cm.sup.1.
