ZIP STRIPS FOR MOLDING OF INFUSED FIBERGLASS PRODUCTS
20220024151 · 2022-01-27 ·

A method of removing a vacuum bag from a composite mold. Removable strips are placed around the perimeter of the component parts and across the parts to create natural break points in the consumable materials used during manufacture of a composite product, e.g. wind turbine blade. The vacuum bag, and other consumable layers, are placed over the removable strip such that when the strips are pulled, the strip tears, in a controlled and complete manner, through each layer of consumables. This eliminates the need to use a knife/scissor to remove the finished product, thereby avoiding risk of injury.

INTEGRATED CAUL WITH ELASTOMERIC SEALS
20230356485 · 2023-11-09 ·

A method, apparatus, and system for applying a vacuum-based pressure on an uncured composite structure. Membranes are bonded to a boundary of a caul. The membranes include positive features that define vacuum channels. The membranes are spliced to each other. The positive features that define the vacuum channels in the membranes are aligned to each other during splicing of the membranes. The membranes spliced to each other and bonded to the caul to form an integrated caul. The integrated caul applies a pressure on the uncured composite structure during operation of the integrated caul.

Vacuum bag having integral ultrasonic transducers

Systems and methods are provided for enhanced vacuum bags. One embodiment is a method that includes placing a laminate comprising uncured fiber reinforced polymer onto a mandrel, laying up a vacuum bag, which includes integral ultrasonic transducers within a gas-impermeable layer, atop the laminate, and sealing the vacuum bag to the mandrel. The method also includes drawing a vacuum on the laminate via the vacuum bag, removing gas between the integral ultrasonic transducers and the laminate, and interrogating the laminate with the integral ultrasonic transducers.

Method for manufacturing a part

A method for manufacturing a part layer-upon-layer using Additive Manufacturing technology, the method including: printing the part together with an elastomeric enclosure shaped thereto leaving a gap free of material therebetween, the elastomeric enclosure including at least one opening; heating the ensemble of the printed part and elastomeric enclosure or keeping an operating printing temperature; applying vacuum by the at least one opening of the elastomeric enclosure so that the elastomeric enclosure deflates thus exerting pressure to the printed part; and maintaining the printed part under vacuum and heat during a predefined time.

PLY TRANSPORTING AND COMPACTING APPARATUS AND METHOD THEREFOR

A ply transporting and compacting apparatus comprises a rigid frame, a top-layer sheet of flexible rubber material fastened to the frame, and a bottom-layer sheet of perforated flexible rubber material having openings. The apparatus also comprises a middle-layer sheet of flow media material disposed in a first plenum area that is defined between the top and bottom layer sheets. The apparatus further comprises a moving device coupled to the frame and arranged to lower the frame and sheets onto a composite ply at a trimming location to pick up the composite ply with a suction force when a vacuum is drawn in the first plenum area to create the suction force through the openings of the bottom-layer sheet.

DEVICES AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING A T-SHAPED SEMIFINISHED PRODUCT FROM A MULTIPLY NON-CRIMP FABRIC

Devices and methods for producing a T-shaped semifinished product from a multiply non-crimp fabric with reinforcing fibers for a composite material. The product has a web and a flange. The device includes a web forming tool, with which a web portion of the non-crimp fabric is clamped in place, a forming tool, with which plies of a flange portion of the non-crimp fabric are split into two parts, a depositing device, with which a tube body is deposited on the flange portion formed into the flange, a holding tool, with which a clearance between the holding tool and the flange is formed, and a filling device, with which the tube body is filled with a gas such that the tube body fills the clearance and firmly holds the flange portion formed into the flange, and alternatively, a magnetic force can be generated between a sheet and the web forming tool.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A COMPOSITE MATERIAL PART

A method for manufacturing a part made from composite material includes the steps of: applying, to a tool, layers of prepreg composite material for constituting a preform; installing a cover on the preform and sealingly connecting this cover to the tool with sealant; applying a vacuum to the enclosure delimited by the cover and the tool containing the preform; and heating the assembly to a given temperature for a predetermined time period in order to polymerise the layers of prepreg composite material. Also, a step of applying at least one silicone patch to geometrically complex zones of the tool and/or the preform may be performed before installing the cover. The cover may include at least one polyimide and/or at least one compound from the phthalonitrile family.

Fabrication Apparatuses and Methods

One embodiment of a method according to the present disclosure may use a fixture with one or more boot recesses formed therein. An embedded member may be engaged with a boot and placed in a boot recess. Substrate lay-up may be placed around all or a portion of the embedded member and an outer member may be positioned over the substrate lay-up. A cover may be positioned over the outer member and engaged with the fixture. The pressure within an interior portion of the fixture may be reduced to less than ambient pressure and resin may be introduced to interact with the substrate lay-up and allowed to cure.
