Forming funnel for constraining cushioned mailers as well as system and method for closing an opening of a mailer
A system (300) for closing mailers includes a forming funnel (320) and a fusing device (310). The forming funnel includes funneling surfaces that receive an opening of a mailer in an insertion direction (302) and constrain the opening of the mailer after the opening of the mailer is inserted. The funneling surfaces are arranged to continue constraining the opening of the mailer as the mailer moves in a sliding direction (304). The fusing device includes a slot that receives the constrained opening of the mailer from the forming funnel. The fusing device applies pressure and heat to the opening of the mailer as the opening of the mailer moves through the slot. The pressure and the heat applied by the fusing device cause portions of the opening to fuse together to close the mailer.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR JOINING WORKPIECES
A method for joining two workpiece parts during a manufacturing process includes forming a first workpiece part having a first mating surface and forming a second workpiece part having a second mating surface. The first and second workpiece part may be separately distributed or may be joined for distribution. To join the parts, an energy director is formed in the first mating surface by an automated process, the energy director comprising an end portion projecting from the first mating surface such that the projecting end portion of the energy director engages the second mating surface when the first and second workpiece parts are brought into engagement with each other. In one example, the first and second workpiece parts are ultrasonically welded by pressing the parts together while vibrating at least one of the first workpiece part or the second workpiece part.

The invention allows a filling of a bag, in particular a bag for medical purposes, without the necessity of providing a filling port on the bag. In this way, resources and costs can be saved, preventing damage to the environment.
METHOD FOR APPLYING A MATERIAL TO A FIBER COMPOSITE COMPONENT
The invention relates to a method for applying a material (30) to a fiber composite component within an application region (13) of the fiber composite component, the fiber composite component being produced from a fiber composite material having a fiber material (11) and a matrix material (12), the method comprising the following steps: —providing at least one monofilament woven fabric (20), in which a plurality of or all threads each consist of a single filament, —arranging the at least one monofilament woven fabric (20) on a fiber preform (10) in the application region (13), which fiber preform is formed from the fiber material (11) of the fiber composite material, —curing, in a common process step, the matrix material (12) of the fiber composite material, which matrix material embeds the fibers material (11) of the fiber preform (10), and a matrix material (12) embedding the monofilament woven fabric (20), thereafter the matrix material (12) of the fiber preform (10) and the matrix material (12) of the monofilament woven fabric (20) being at least partially cured, —tearing off the monofilament woven fabric (20) integrally bonded to the fiber preform (10), and —applying the material (30) in the application region (13) after the monofilament woven fabric (20) has been torn off.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PROCESSING CUPS
An apparatus (1) for processing plastic cups (2), adapted to be filled with coffee or other products, whether solid or liquid, and to be closed with respective lids to form corresponding capsules, comprises: a plurality of pockets (50) for housing the cups (2); an infeed station (4) for receiving the cups (2) and placing them in respective pockets (50) of the plurality of pockets (50); at least one tool (31) for applying a process to a rear face (23B) of an annular flange (23) of a cup (2) housed a respective pocket (50), to form a sealing profile (230); an outfeed station (6) configured to release the cups (2) with the sealing profile (230) formed on them.
SIZE REDUCTION OF MAILERS
A system includes a forming funnel, a cutting element, and a fusing device. The forming funnel has divergent surfaces arranged to receive a mailer in an insertion direction between the divergent surfaces. The forming funnel includes a slot that constrains the mailer after the mailer is inserted between the divergent surfaces. The cutting element cuts off a portion of the mailer and to forms a cut end of the mailer as the mailer is moved through the slot in a sliding direction. The fusing device applies pressure to an exterior of the cut end of the mailer and applies heat to the cut end of the mailer as the mailer is moved through the slot. The pressure and the heat applied by the fusing device cause portions of the cut end to fuse together to close the mailer.
JOINING METHOD AND ASSEMBLY FOR AN AIRCRAFT
A joining method and assembly for an aircraft. To improve the characteristics or permit hitherto impossible connections between thermoplastic and thermoset components, a multi-material joining method is disclosed in which a thermoplastic connecting region is formed on the thermoplastic component.
