REINFORCED THERMOPLASTIC DUCT
A reinforced duct system includes at least a first thermoplastic duct section and a stiffening ring affixed to the first thermoplastic duct section. The stiffening ring includes first and second thermoplastic core rings, an inner reinforcement strip adhered to and spanning adjacent interior surfaces of the first and second core rings, an outer reinforcement strip adhered to and spanning adjacent exterior surface of the first and second core rings, and a flat reinforcement ring interposed between the first and second core rings.
MANUFACTURING OF POLYETHYLENE THIN FILMS FOR HIGH-ALTITUDE BALLOONS
Aspects of the disclosure relate to manufacturing a balloon envelope for use in a stratospheric balloon system. For instance, a stream of polyethylene mixture us extruded through an extruder in order to orient molecules of polymer chains of polyethylene and to provide an oriented film. The oriented film is passed through an electron beam and thereby crosslinking the polymer chains to provide a cross-linked film. The cross-linked film is heat sealed to form the balloon envelope
Open-channel stiffener
An open-channel stiffener for stiffening a panel has a bonding flange for bonding the stiffener to the panel through a bondline formed between the bonding flange and the panel to form a stiffened panel. The open-channel stiffener has a cross-sectional shape that aligns, or substantially aligns, a shear center of the stiffener with a centroid of the stiffener and aligns the shear center proximate an edge of the bondline, and removes the need for a radius filler noodle. A plurality of perforations may be formed through the bonding flange to permit an adhesive to wick into the perforations and create a mechanical interlock between the bonding flange and the panel.
MULTI-FUNCTIONAL PROTECTIVE ASSEMBLIES, SYSTEMS INCLUDING PROTECTIVE ASSEMBLIES, AND RELATED METHODS
A protective assembly comprises a first region formulated and configured to provide protection from alpha, beta, and electromagnetic radiation and comprising a composite of particles and polymer; a second region formulated and configured to provide protection from ballistic impact and comprising a composite of fibers and polymer; and a third region formulated and configured to provide protection from thermal radiation and comprising a composite of particles, fiber, and polymer. The protective assembly may be provided on an aerospace structure. The protective assembly may be formed on the aerospace structure body using a co-curing process.
ELASTIC ELECTRO-WELDING CONNECTION
An electro-welding fitting includes a main body from a first plastics material having an elasticity modulus E2 and at least one heating element for heating the plastics first material. The at least one heating element is entirely or partially surrounded by a second plastics material that does not correspond to the first plastics material or that has other properties from those of the first plastics material
Consolidated polymer film
In a first aspect, a consolidated polymer film includes a first polymer layer having a first elastic modulus, wherein the first polymer layer comprises a non-melt-processible polymer comprising a polyimide, a poly(amide-imide), a block copolymer of a polyimide or a poly(amide-imide) or a mixture thereof, and a second polymer layer having a second elastic modulus, wherein the second polymer layer comprises a polyimide, a poly(amide-imide), a block copolymer of a polyimide or a poly(amide-imide) or a mixture thereof. A minor surface of the first polymer layer is in contact with a minor surface of the second polymer layer. The first elastic modulus is different from the second elastic modulus. The first and second polymer layers are bonded by consolidation.
Garment having seam-less elastic band, and system and method for producing such garment
Garment having seam-less elastic band or synthetic band, and system and method for producing such garment. A method of producing a seam-less elastic band (105) comprises: providing an un-folded elongated elastic strip (101); folding at the elongated elastic strip (101) at a folding point (102) to create a first strip portion (102-103) overlapping on top of a second strip portion (103-104) of the elongated elastic strip (101), wherein the first strip portion (102-103) and the second strip portion (103-104) meet at a meeting point (104); performing an ultrasonic operation at the meeting point (104) on said first and second strip portion to create the seam-less elastic band (105) detached from a remainder of the elongated elastic band (101). The ultrasonic operations comprise one or more operations, ultrasonic cutting, ultrasonic welding, ultrasonic bonding, or other suitable ultrasonic operations.
WELDING PROCESS AND PRODUCT FOR INFLATABLE PRODUCT
A welding process of an inflatable product is provided that includes using isolating members between first and second portions of weldable tensioning members to resist the first and second portions of the weldable tensioning structures being welded together during welding of the first portions to a first sheet of weldable material and welding of the second portions to a second sheet of weldable material.
Vehicle member joining structure and vehicle member joining method
A vehicle member joining structure has: a metal member that is part of a vehicle; a resin member that is adjacent to the metal member; and an adhesive that is provided between the metal member and the resin member and joins the metal member to the resin member, the adhesive having an elastic modulus that is lower than elastic moduli of the metal member and the resin member, wherein, given that (i) L is a difference in linear expansions of the metal member and the resin member at a time of heating in a drying process after application of the adhesive, (ii) T.sub.0 is a thickness of the adhesive and (iii) T.sub.1 is a length of an end surface of the adhesive, the following predetermined relational expression is satisfied
T.sub.1.sup.2=T.sub.0.sup.2+L.sup.2.
Fitment with Ethylene/a-Olefin Multi-Block Copolymer
The present disclosure provides a fitment. In an embodiment, a fitment is provided and includes a top portion, a base, and a channel extending through the top portion and the base for passage of a flowable material. The base includes a pair of opposing sidewalls. The sidewalls extend around the channel. The sidewalls are joined together at opposing ends. The fitment further includes at least one sealing rib extending along the sidewalls. The sealing rib includes an ethylene/-olefin multi-block copolymer.
