A controlled, variable speed vacuum pump with a flow limiter connected to the suction head of the vacuum pump conveys granular plastic resin material from a supply to receivers retaining and dispensing resin when needed by a process machine.

MIXING APPARATUS

A mixing apparatus includes a mixer configured to mix a material including a rubber or a resin in the presence of a working fluid that is in a supercritical state or a subcritical state. The mixer includes a chamber that forms a flow passage for the working fluid and the material, and a mixing blade disposed in the chamber and fixed to the chamber.

Systems and Methods for Making Thermoplastic Products and Compositions

Thermoplastic compositions useful for roadway markings may be produced using a continuous systems and process methods that can reduce costs and improve product quality. Systems may comprise a feed system comprising a plurality of feeders and a mixing system comprising a mixer and a smoothing system. Each feeder may be configured to discharge a material at a feed rate according to a selected product formulation The mixing system may be configured to receive, heat, and combine the materials to produce a thermoplastic material, and discharge the thermoplastic material at a determined discharge rate.

Dynamically controlled screw-driven extrusion

A screw-driven extrusion system includes a novel screw-drive extruder. The extruder includes a motor-driven screw. The screw moves solid pellets from a feed hopper into a section that is actively heated. The solid pellets fully liquefy as they pass through the heated section. A control system controls screw, heating, and optionally cooling, operations to selectively control flow of liquefied material from the extruder's tip. The dynamically-controlled can continuously adjust its feed speed and temperature to keep up with continuously changing demands of a larger control system involved in monitoring and running a corresponding 3-D printer in an additive manufacturing process. In contrast to wirefeed extrusion systems that rely on the rigidity of the material in wire-formed feedstock, this screw-driven extrusion system is well-suited to use of less-rigid thermoplastic elastomers for the manufacture of objects for use in soft robotics, medical and mold-making applications.

A pump assembly for use in an additive manufacturing system includes a viscosity pump having a first end and a second end wherein the first end has a cross sectional area greater than a cross sectional area of the second end. The viscosity pump has a conical shaped inner surface defining a pump chamber, an inlet proximate the first end and an outlet proximate the second end. The viscosity pump includes an impeller having an axis of rotation, where the impeller has a shaft positioned through the first end of the first housing and into the pump chamber. The impeller includes a distal tip-end at a distal end of the shaft wherein the impeller is configured to be axially displaced within the pump chamber of the viscosity pump parallel to the axis of rotation. An actuator is coupled to a proximal end of the impeller, wherein the actuator is configured to move the impeller parallel to the axis of rotation.

RUBBER SHEET MONITORING APPARATUS AND RUBBER SHEET MONITORING METHOD

A rubber sheet monitoring apparatus (1) comprises a first imaging unit (11), a second imaging unit (2), a first generation unit (142) and a second calculation unit (146). The first imaging unit successively acquires images of a first optical cutting edge (CL1) formed on a front surface of a rubber sheet (6). The second imaging unit successively acquires images of a second optical cutting edge (CL2) formed on a back surface of the rubber sheet. The first generation unit performs, for each of the successively acquired images of the first optical cutting edge, generation of first data (D1) representing height variation of a widthwise cross-sectional edge of the rubber sheet using the image of the first optical cutting edge, and performs, for each of the successively obtained images of the second optical cutting edge, generation of second data (D2) representing height variation of a widthwise cross-sectional edge of the rubber sheet using the image of the second optical cutting edge. The second calculation unit calculates, using first data and second data for a same cross-section, the thickness of the rubber sheet at the cross-section.
