Fish egg extracts, omega-3 lipid-based compositions and uses thereof
Novel methods for isolating fish roe/egg extracts, notably a coagulum and a sediment extract, enriched in phospholipids and omega-3 fatty acids are described. Novel compositions comprising omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and micronutrients, which may be used for the management of neurological conditions such as ADD-ADHD, autism, cognitive impairment, and mood disorders are also described. These compositions are homogenous compositions comprising effective amounts of omega-3 fatty acids in microencapsulated or emulsified form, and/or from the sediment extract from fish roe/egg, vitamin B6, magnesium, zinc and copper, and may further comprise additional ingredients such as folic acid (e.g., L-methyl folate) and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA).

STABILITY AND MOUTHFEEL ENHANCEMENT OF FORTIFIED, ASEPTICALLY PROCESSED BEVERAGES
A fortified dairy-based ready-to-drink beverage includes a dairy component containing aggregates of kappa-casein covalently bonded to beta-lactoglobulin and having a particle size of 5 to 10 m; and an amount of vitamins and minerals sufficient to provide fortification of the ready-to-drink beverage. The ready-to-drink beverage does not contain gum arabic; guar gum; xanthan gum; carrageenan; cellulose gum; an emulsifier; or a buffer. A method of making a fortified dairy-based ready-to-drink beverage includes forming a mixture by mixing a dairy component with an amount of vitamins and minerals sufficient to provide fortification of the ready-to-drink beverage; adjusting the pH of the mixture; homogenizing the pH-adjusted mixture; and subjecting the homogenized mixture to a heat treatment at 80-150 C. for 3 to 300 seconds. Neither the mixture nor the fortified dairy-based ready-to-drink beverage contains gum arabic; guar gum; xanthan gum; carrageenan; cellulose gum; an emulsifier; or a buffer.

The composition includes specific amounts of glucosamine or a pharmaceutically-acceptable derivative thereof, calcium, vitamin C, vitamin D and zinc. Also provided is the composition in the form of a powdered food product, and a beverage product comprising the composition in the form of a powder which has been reconstituted in a liquid. Also provided is the use of the composition or food or beverage product in maintaining or improving mobility, preferably joint function and muscle strength in ageing, healthy subjects.
