A bottom-gusseted package comprising a package body, and a bottom gusset positioned transversely of a longitudinal axis of the package body. Formation of the bottom-gusseted package is effected by positioning individual sleeves transversely of the longitudinal axis of a flexible web which forms the package body. During package formation, the flexible web is folded and cut to form individual packages, with each individual sleeve positioned to form a bottom gusset in a respective package. Attendant to folding of the flexible web, each gusset-forming sleeve is folded. Optionally, the individual sleeve portions can be configured such that when the flexible web is cut to form individual packages, each individual sleeve is cut to form a bottom gusset in one package, and a top sleeve portion in an adjacent package.

Process for In Situ Production of Microcapillary Dispensing System for Flexible Pouch

In an embodiment of the present disclosure, a process for producing a flexible pouch is provided. The process includes placing a capillary precursor element (CPE) between two opposing flexible films. The flexible films define a common peripheral edge. The CPE comprises an array of pins sandwiched between two opposing polymeric strips. The process includes positioning a first side of the CPE at a first side of the common peripheral edge and positioning a second side of the CPE at a second side of the common peripheral edge. The process includes first sealing, at a first seal condition, (i) the opposing polymeric strips to each other to form a matrix, and (ii) sealing the matrix to the two opposing flexible films. The process includes removing the array of pins from the matrix to form an in situ microcapillary strip.

Formation of the bottom-gusseted package is effected by positioning individual sleeves transversely of the longitudinal axis of a flexible web which forms the package body. Tape elements are applied in overlapping relationship to opposite ends of each individual sleeve. During package formation, the flexible web is cut to form individual packages, and each individual sleeve can be cut to form a bottom gusset in one package, and a top sleeve portion in an adjacent package. A top sleeve portion of the package body can be configured to include a reclosable fastener. The tape elements facilitate formation such that the packages can be formed and filled on an associated vertical form, fill and seal apparatus have conventionally configured heat-sealing jaws.

Device and method for packaging products in a foil device, package produced and filled using the method

The present invention provides a device for packaging products in a foil package. The device comprises corner forming means for forming a number of folded and attached-together sections of foil material in a foil web, which sections extend outwardly in the longitudinal direction of the foil web, which sections each form a seam on the inner side of the foil web, packaging means, and transport means for transporting the foil web from a supply roll along the corner forming means and along the packaging means, respectively. The device further comprises application means for applying elongate closing elements perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the web to the inner side of the web, wherein the application means are provided between the corner forming means and the shaping means and are adapted to apply the elongate closing elements such that the closing elements cross at least some of the seams formed in the foil web by the corner forming means.
