A value-document printing machine includes, in the path of the printed material, at least a first printing site, at which first printing site a printing material passing through that first printing site can be printed, in segments, on at least a first of the two sides of that first printing material in a cycle at a print image width with a cycle length that is fixed in relation to the advancing of the printing material at the printing site, with print images of a print material length that is shorter than the cycle length. A second printing site follows next downstream that first printing site and through which the printing material passing through the printing site can likewise be printed with print images on at least a second of the sides of the printing material. A dryer device has a dryer which comprises a one- or a multi-part radiation assembly and which is arranged in the printing material path one of between the first and second printing sites and in the printing material path following the second printing site. Radiation can be supplied to the printing material passing through the dryer on the transport path of the printing material in order to dry the printing material. A control device that controls the drying unit of the dryer, with regard to activation and deactivation, is provided.

In a first aspect, the invention concerns a method for providing a varnish coating to individual sheet substrates, said method comprising the steps of applying a liquid coating composition to the upper surface of a sheet substrate, conveying said sheet substrate along a track, while supporting the substrate from its rear surface, and subsequently curing and/or drying said coating composition. In particular, the aforementioned track is at least partly curved. In a second aspect, the invention relates to a device for performing such a method.

A machine arrangement, that sequentially processes sheet-type substrates, includes a plurality of different processing stations, one of which includes a non-impact printing device that prints the substrates. Further processing stations are a primer application device that primes the substrates and a dryer for drying the primer applied to the substrates. The primer application device and the dryer precede the non-impact printing device, in the direction of travel of the substrates. The processing station including the non-impact printing device, also includes a printing cylinder, on the circumference of which, the non-impact printing device that prints the substrates is arranged.

A double-sided varnishing apparatus includes a varnishing unit configured to apply varnish to both surfaces of a sheet, and an additional processing unit configured to perform additional processing on the sheet on an upstream side in a sheet conveyance direction with respect to the varnishing unit. The additional processing unit includes a first embossing unit, and a special unit located on the upstream side in the sheet conveyance direction with respect to the first embossing unit. The special unit is one of an offset printing unit, a flexographic printing unit, and a second embossing unit. These units are interchangeable with each other. Value can be added to a polymer-made sheet.

Method for operating a UV curing device in a printing machine

A method for operating a UV curing device in a printing machine includes providing a printing material to which a UV-curing fluid or UV printing ink or varnish is applied. The printing material is paper or foil moving in a transport direction and having a width. The fluid is cured by UV radiation emitted by a fluid-cooled first UV LED emitter of the device at least in an effective range thereof. The first UV LED emitter is operated in a curing mode and at a first power, and a fluid-cooled second UV LED emitter is operated in a temperature control mode different than the curing mode and at a second power lower than the first power and different than zero. The second power and the temperature of an LED array of the second UV LED emitter is selected to cause the LED array to be free from condensate.

A method is provided for configuring a drying device in a printing machine, in particular in a value document printing machine. The printing machine has at least one printing unit which comprises an imaging cylinder having a plurality of imaging printing elements or groups of imaging printing elements which are arranged in rows and columns on its circumference. A drying device has a dryer, by which print material, passing through the dryer, is subject to radiation. The drying device is configured for ongoing or upcoming production in such a way that the print material passing through the dryer, in order to be dried, is subjected to radiation in a plurality of tracks spaced from each other by non-irradiated tracks according to the same switch-on and switch-off sequence extending over cycle length. The configuration takes place with regard to one of a lateral position and a width of the tracks to be subject to two radiation by the dryer using product-related data or information regarding one of the number and the size and the position of value items to be printed next to each other on the print material portion and one of using data which comes from a device for image capture and an evaluation comprised by the printing machine or provided in parallel to such a device.

A dryer device for a printing press that prints in at least one printing position on a printing substrate by use of at least one printing unit, in particular a printing press for securities, includes a dryer with a drying unit formed by an array of a plurality of adjacent radiation sources. That array extends at least over the maximum width of the printing substrate and is used to supply radiation to the printing substrate in each activated state for drying the latter. A control device allows the radiation sources or some of the radiation sources to be switched on or off in a repeating cycle that comprises a sequence with at least one active and at least one inactive phase in correlation with one of a press and a printing-substrate phase position. The dryer device comprising the dryer and the control device is configured to switch on and switch off, for each cycle, only some of the radiation sources in some sections in at least four pre-definable radiation-source groups, spaced approximately equidistantly, i.e. at a distance deviating by a maximum 20% from the average distance and transversely to a transport direction, one of concurrently and collectively according to a sequence comprising one of multiple and at least three equidistant active phases of the same first lengths. The invention also relates to a printing press, in particular to a printing press for securities, comprising a dryer device of this type. During operation, the printing substrate is supplied with radiation in multiple tracks spaced apart transversely to the transport direction, synchronously with one of the printing substrate feed and with the press phase.

LED module with liquid cooled reflector

A light emitting diode (LED) module includes a first end cap, a second end cap and a reflector portion. The reflector portion extends longitudinally between the first end cap and the second end cap. The reflector portion includes a coolant passageway defined longitudinally through the reflector portion and is fluidically coupled to the first end cap and the second end cap. An LED package is disposed adjacent to the reflector portion. An orifice bushing can be disposed within a coolant passage defined in the first end cap to restrict coolant flow through the reflector portion to preclude starvation of coolant flow elsewhere in the LED module.
