APPARATUS FOR ADAPTING A SEATBELT TO A CHILD
An apparatus for adapting an adult three-point seatbelt of a vehicle for safe and secure usage by an occupant such as a child, the seatbelt being of the ubiquitous type that comprises a tensioned belt wound on a drum that extends from above shoulder height of an adult occupant of a seat, to an anchor point connected to chassis of vehicle, and a clasp attached to the chassis on an opposite side of an occupant of the seat from the anchor point, such that the belt may be drawn downwards and across an occupant to engage the clasp, thereby restraining the occupant with both a sash section and a lap section of the seatbelt.
The apparatus comprises a guide for the sash section of the seat belt that is fixed to a seat and sideways adjustable with respect to the occupant sitting on the seat, the sash guide for engaging the sash section above a shoulder of the occupant at a sideways position to ensure that said sash section runs over shoulder of the occupant in an optimal position for both comfort and safety. Different embodiments are directed to a guide attached to the seat of the vehicle itself, retrofittable to a head rest and attached to various child seats such as booster seats that themselves sit on the vehicle seat.

The harness system includes a locking device that is concealed inside the child safety seat and has a clamping member, and an adjustment strap passing through the locking device and extending outside the seat shell through the opening, an inner portion of the adjustment strap extending inside the child safety seat between the locking device and the opening. The locking device has a release state where the clamping member unclamps the adjustment strap, and a locking state where the clamping member clamps the adjustment strap. The release actuator is configured to operatively connect with the locking device, and is operable to switch the locking device from the locking state to the release state.
Child Safety Seat
A child safety seat includes a seat shell having a seat region for receiving a child, two extension parts and a locking mechanism. The two extension parts are respectively disposed at a left and a right side of the seat region, are connected with the seat shell, and are coupled to each other via a linking assembly. The two extension parts are movable together relative to the seat shell to protrude forward from a front of the seat shell or retract toward the seat shell, the two extension parts being disconnected from each other at the front of the seat shell. The locking mechanism is operable to lock the two extension parts in position relative to the seat shell.
