A fishing reel according to an embodiment of the present disclosure has an operation portion, and is configured, where the operation portion is manipulated, to operate a first function when the fishing reel is in a first state, and a second function when the fishing reel is in a second state.

A baitcaster for retrieving a fishing line includes a housing, a spool, and a compound gear set. The spool is positioned at least partially within the housing, defining an inner volume, and includes a spindle. The compound gear set is positioned at least partially within the inner volume of the spool. An automatic media integrated fishing reel for automating reel in, capturing video, and providing entertainment includes a reel housing having a removable top having a line aperture extending through to an inner cavity. A base is coupled to the reel housing and is configured to attach to a fishing pole. A line spool is coupled within the inner cavity and is configured to receive a fishing line. A motor is coupled to the line spool to wind and unwind the fishing line on the line spool. A power source is coupled within the inner cavity and is in operational communication with the motor. A plurality of control buttons is in operational communication with the motor. A video recorder is coupled to the reel housing. A CPU is in operational communication with each of the motor, the power source, the plurality of control buttons, and the video recorder.

A fishing reel de-spooler comprises a base member, a de-spooler drive shaft, and two or more extended members adapted to receive fishing line from a fishing reel. The de-spooler drive shaft is adapted for attachment to a chuck of a rotary drill and the plate member. The two or more extended members are removeably coupled to the plate member. The fishing reel spooler comprises an elongated plate member, a spooler drive shaft, and one or more handle receiving cup members adapted to receive a handle of a fishing reel. The elongated plate member is removeably coupled to the spooler drive shaft on a shaft side of the elongated plate member which is adapted to be coupled to the handle receiving cup members. The spooler drive shaft is adapted for attachment to a chuck of a rotary drill.

Systems, methods, and apparatuses for implementing a center-pin housing-free reel with variable resistance braking and a casting pivot upon a transaxial plane are described herein. For example, according to one embodiment there is a fishing rod and reel system, including: a fishing rod; a fishing reel assembly; and in which the fishing reel assembly includes: a rotatable mount having a mount segment which is to affix the fishing reel assembly with a mount receiver of a fishing rod and a rotating segment, in which the rotating segment pivots upon an axis separate from the mount segment; a structural brace affixed to the rotating segment of the rotatable mount; a centerpin mount affixed to the structural brace at a first end of the centerpin; a reel mounted upon the centerpin and affixed to the centerpin via a fastener secured to a second end of the centerpin, in which the reel is to rotate upon the centerpin between the structural brace and the fastener; a variable resistance braking assembly affixed to the rotating segment of the rotatable mount, in which the variable resistance braking assembly is to pivot with the reel, in which the variable resistance braking assembly includes at least (i) a lever, (ii) a spring, and (iii) a resistance contact point oriented at a portion of the lever which makes physical contact with the reel; and in which the spring has a preload to pull the resistance contact point of the lever into the reel and further in which braking force of the variable resistance braking assembly is increased when the lever is pressed into the reel and decreased or negated when the variable resistance braking assembly is retracted from the reel. [Solution] A fishing reel according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a spool, a power supply, a controller, a clutch, and a clutch state detector, wherein the controller is configured to switch between a first state of high power consumption and a second state of lower power consumption than the first state, and to switch from the second state to the first state when the clutch detector detects the off-state of the clutch.
