Adjustable head restraint assembly for vehicle seats

A head restraint assembly is provided with a head restraint frame mounted to a post for movement along the post for adjustment relative to a vehicle seat. The head restraint frame has a contact surface. A biasing member is mounted to the head restraint frame for movement relative to the head restraint frame to maintain the head restraint frame in a locked condition along the post. An actuation member is mounted to the head restraint frame for movement relative to the head restraint frame. The actuation member cooperates with the biasing member such that movement of the actuation member moves the biasing member, thereby disengaging the biasing member from the post to permit movement of the head restraint along the post such that the biasing member engages the contact surface in the second position to provide feedback to the user of an unlocked condition of the head restraint frame.

ACOUSTIC OUTPUT THROUGH HEADREST WINGS

The technology described in this document can be embodied in a headrest of a seat, the headrest including an enclosure for housing one or more acoustic transducers, and an adjustable headrest wing disposed in front of the enclosure. The headrest wing is coupled to the enclosure by a pivot, and configured to be adjusted to one of multiple positions within an angle range around the pivot. The headrest wing is also configured to support the head of a seat-occupant. The headrest further includes a connector disposed between the enclosure and a rear portion of the headrest wing. The connector is configured to provide an acoustic channel between the enclosure and the headrest wing such that audio signals from the one or more acoustic transducers are radiated outward through the headrest wing.

An adjustable headrest 300 includes a guide 360 configured to be coupled to a seat, a head support 302 coupled to the guide and configured to be movable along an adjustment path relative to the seat, and a slider 370 having a surface defining a recess 373 receiving the guide such that the surface of the slider contacts a surface of the guide. The adjustment headrest further includes a retainer 390 positioned to urge the surface of the slider against the surface of the guide, thereby maintaining friction between the surface of the slider and the surface of the guide and resisting unintended movement of the slider with respect to the guide along the adjustment path. Also, a friction module and a friction hinge are provided, which can be incorporated into an adjustable headrest or other assemblies in which sliding and/or hinged components are desired.
