An electric power steering system includes a system housing, an electric motor, a steering shaft assembly, and an electronic control unit. The electric motor is disposed within a motor housing that is disposed within and is attached to the system housing. The steering shaft assembly has a torsion bar that that extends at least partially through the system housing and motor housing. The electronic control unit a printed circuit board and a torque sensor. The printed circuit board is disposed within and is attached to the system housing. The torque sensor is disposed on the printed circuit board and is arranged to provide a signal indicative of angular displacement of the torsion bar.

Steering transmission for electromechanical steering system for a vehicle and electromechanical steering system for a vehicle

A steering transmission for an electro-mechanical steering system for a vehicle includes an electric motor, a servo transmission, and an angle transmission for connecting a steering column of the steering system to a control stalk of the steering system. The angle transmission is a mechanically driven recirculating-ball transmission with a ball nut, which is engaged with a segment shaft of the steering transmission that is/can be connected to the steering stalk. A spindle of the recirculating-ball transmission is continuous. The spindle is connected to an output shaft of the servo transmission on one side. The servo transmission is/can be driven by the electric motor.

A steering device includes a motor, a first shaft, a transmitter, a second shaft, and an engagement portion. The first shaft of a hollow cylindrical shape is coupled in a torque transmittable manner to a steering member with which a driver performs steering operation. The transmitter is disposed on an outer circumference of the first shaft and configured to transmit torque of the motor to the first shaft. The second shaft is coupled in a torque transmittable manner to a wheel-turning unit configured to turn wheels. The second shaft is inserted in the first shaft. The engagement portion is interposed between an inner surface of the first shaft and an outer surface of the second shaft and configured to make the first shaft and the second shaft engage with each other.

APPARATUS FOR INTRODUCING AN AUXILIARY TORQUE INTO A STEERING SHAFT OF AN ELECTROMECHANICAL POWER STEERING SYSTEM

An apparatus for introducing an auxiliary torque and/or an additional steering angle into a steering shaft of an electromechanical power steering system may comprise a gearwheel that is attached fixedly on the steering shaft so as to rotate with the steering shaft and that is operatively connected to a drive element of a drive motor for driving the gearwheel. The apparatus may further include a sensor that is connected fixedly to the steering shaft so as to rotate with the steering shaft. So that the attachment of the sensor can take place with less complexity and use less installation space as far as possible, the sensor and the gearwheel may be connected to one another at contact faces.

According to embodiments of the present invention, when a driver applies steering torque greater than the reaction torque of a reaction motor to a steering shaft, the steering shaft is mechanically prevented from rotating any more, and thus the driver's steering feel can be improved.

Modular steering system

A modular steering system is adapted to be installed in a vehicle. The vehicle includes a steering column. The modular steering system includes an input unit, a first output unit, and a second output unit. The input unit includes an input shaft that extends along a first axis, that is adapted to be connected to the steering column, and that is adapted to be driven rotatably by the steering column about the first axis. The first output unit includes a first output shaft that extends along and is rotatable about a second axis parallel to the first axis. The second output unit includes a second output shaft that extends along and is rotatable about a third axis. The second axis and the third axis cooperatively define an angle therebetween.
