Method of and an arrangement for improving the lubrication system of a propulsion device of a marine vessel
A method of and an arrangement for improving the lubrication system of a propulsion device of a marine vessel are specifically applicable in removing water from the lubrication oil of various types of thrusters. An inert gas is arranged from an inert gas source to flow through a gas cavity in the lubrication system for flushing moist gas from the cavity.
STERN DRIVES HAVING BREAKAWAY LOWER GEARCASE
A stern drive is for propelling a marine vessel in water. The stern drive has an upper drive unit with a lower mounting surface; a lower gearcase coupled to the lower mounting surface and a trailing end surface that is angled relative to the lower mounting surface; and a propeller shaft extending forwardly from the lower gearcase and being configured to rotate a propeller for pulling the marine vessel in the water. The upper drive unit and the lower gearcase are configured such that when a forward side of the lower gearcase impacts an underwater obstruction, the lower gearcase is caused to pivot relative to the upper drive unit until the trailing end surface impacts the lower mounting surface, which thereby causes the lower gearcase to completely uncouple from the upper drive unit.
FOOT CONTROLLER SYSTEM FOR MARINE MOTOR
A foot controller system includes a foot controller having a base that engages a portion of a marine vessel when the foot controller is in an operable position. The foot controller also includes a foot pedal pivotable, with respect to the base, about a first axis, and rotatable, with respect to at least a portion of the base, about a second axis different from the first axis. The foot controller controls a first aspect of a marine motor system when the foot pedal is pivoted about the first axis and controls a second aspect of the marine motor system different from the first aspect when the foot pedal is rotated about the second axis.
Marine propulsion device and lower unit therefor
A marine propulsion device includes an engine, a driveshaft powered by the engine, a propulsor shaft coupled in torque-transmitting relationship with the driveshaft, and a propulsor coupled to the propulsor shaft and rotatable to produce a thrust. A housing supports the propulsor shaft therein. The housing has fore and aft skegs projecting from a bottom surface thereof.
Devices and methods for making devices for supporting a propulsor on a marine vessel
A device for supporting a propulsor on a marine vessel. The device includes a base that is fixable to the marine vessel and a pivot arm for coupling the propulsor to the base. An actuator is configured to pivot the pivot arm relative to the base into and between a retracted position and a deployed position. A fastener is engageable to couple the actuator to the pivot arm, where when the fastener is engaged the pivot arm is prevented from pivoting other than by the actuator, and where applying a predetermined force on the pivot arm disengages the fastener to allow the pivot arm to pivot other than by the actuator.
PROPULSION UNIT FOR A MARINE VESSEL
A propulsion unit for a marine vessel is adapted to receive power from at least one power supply unit. The propulsion unit includes a stationary part adapted to be mounted to a hull of the marine vessel, and a movable part comprising one or more thrust generating devices adapted to transform the received power into a thrust by acting on water carrying the marine vessel. The propulsion unit is adapted to receive exhaust gases from at least two internal combustion engines, wherein the movable part is adapted to release the exhaust gases into the water.
Contactless power transmission in an azimuth thruster
A system for contactless power transmission in an azimuth thruster, the system comprising a first body (76) comprising at least one first inductor to provide a magnetic field, a second body (78) comprising at least one second inductor to generate an electrical current from the magnetic field, the bodies being configured to be relatively rotatable, the at least one first inductor and the at least one second inductor being configured to generate an electrical current from the magnetic field at all relative rotational positions, wherein the or each of the first inductors are tuned to resonate within a predetermined frequency band and the or each of the second inductors are tuned to resonate within a predetermined frequency band, the frequency band of the or each of the second inductors at least partially overlapping with the frequency band of the or each of the first inductors.
BEARING DEVICE, FOR POWER TRANSMISSION UNIT FOR AN AZIMUTH THRUSTER
A bearing device providing at least one bearing, an acquisition device having at least one optical fiber attached at least partly to the bearing configured to measure at least one first parameter relative to the bearing, an optical interrogator coupled to the at least one optical fiber configured to process the at least one first parameter so as to obtain at least one second parameter, and having a transmitting antenna connected to the at least one optical fiber configured to process the at least one first parameter, and a receiving antenna cooperating with the transmitting antenna configured to send wirelessly the at least one second parameter.
MARINE PROPULSION DEVICE AND METHODS OF MAKING MARINE PROPULSION DEVICE HAVING IMPACT PROTECTION
A propulsion device for a marine vessel. A base is configured to be coupled to the marine vessel. A shaft includes an upper segment and a lower segment each extending along a length axis, wherein the upper segment is coupled to the base. A propulsor is coupled to the lower segment, where the propulsor is configured to propel the marine vessel in water. A shock absorber includes a resilient member that resiliently couples the upper segment and the lower segment together, where the resilient member dampens impact forces received at the lower segment and reduces transfer of the impact forces to the upper segment.
