PET FOOD COMPOSITIONS

Pet food compositions and methods for minimizing tartar and/or improving the health of pets are disclosed herein. The pet food compositions typically include about 20 wt. % or more of fat comprising a medium chain triglyceride(s) having an octanoate component, wherein the medium chain triglyceride(s) comprising the octanoate component comprises about 10 wt. % or more of the fat, based on the total weight of the fat on a dry matter basis. The pet food compositions also may have a ketogenic ratio of about 1.5 or greater as calculated using Formula 1: (0.9 F+0.46 P)/(0.1 F+0.58 P+C), wherein F is the weight percentage of fat, P is the weight percentage of protein, and C is the weight percentage of carbohydrate.

Feeding equine animals involves obtaining an equine feed combined with a yeast fermentation product such as a Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation product, and feeding the feed to the equine animal such that ingestion causes the equine animal to improve performance, including a mitigated inflammatory response or an increased immune in function. The feed may contain about 0.1 to 1.0 percent of the yeast fermentation product by weight of the feed. A formulated feed ration for the equine animal may include grain- and forage-based feed and a Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation product in an amount of about 5 grams to about 40 grams per head per day.

Hormesis model (i.e. a toxicant excitation effect or a low dose promoting effect) is firstly used to study the relationship between the amount and efficacy of tea seed meal in feed industry. The amount of the tea seed meal as feed additive for the low dose promoting effect is determined to be 0.25-4 kg per ton of complete feed in the monogastric animal feed. The use method and the amount of the tea seed meal as feed additive can improve animal growth performance, such as increase daily weight gain, improve feed conversion ratio and decrease mortality.
