A storage container system for storing items includes a tote, an insulated shell with a lid. The insulated shell is configured for receiving the tote. The insulated shell includes a base and a plurality of side walls and is foldable between an expanded configuration and a collapsed configuration such that the tote fits inside the insulated shell when the insulated shell is in the expanded configuration. A film cooperates with the container to seal the opening of the container and control flow of gas and water vapor transfer between the compartment and the outside environment.

The silicone compressor includes an input pinhole for injecting inert gases into an interior of the container and an output valve through which internal oxygen can escape as the volume of air is being reduced.

One embodiment of an apparatus with mobile reusable airtight container assembly (10) which utilizes pressurized inert gas or CO2 gas for long term preservation of the freshness of roasted coffee beans or grounds in terms of aroma and taste, utilizes a system of an electronic controller (250), pressure switch (170), gas delivery valve (180), check valve (50) and vent valve (160) to create a pressurized environment of inert gas or CO2 gas and low residual oxygen and moisture concentrations within the airtight container assembly (10). An airtight lid (20) with pressure seal (220) covers the airtight container assembly (10) and creates a reusable system whereby the user can remove a portion of the roasted coffee beans or grounds as often as needed in order to brew coffee without degrading the long term freshness of the roasted coffee beans or grounds stored within the airtight container assembly (10). A two stage opening mechanism (40) prevents uncontrolled opening of the airtight lid (20) while the airtight container assembly (10) is pressurized. The check valve (50) enables the mobile aspect whereby the airtight container assembly (10) can be removed from and replaced back on a control system (260) as many times as desired by the user, while maintaining the optimum storage condition of pressurized inert gas or CO2 gas with low residual oxygen and moisture concentrations.

The invention relates to a method (100) for preserving a foodstuff in a hydrogen atmosphere in a packaging (200) comprising an interior space (220) enclosed by a hydrogen-permeable and airtightly sealable casing (210), the interior space (220) comprising a foodstuff space (221) for receiving the foodstuff and a hydrogen space (222) for receiving hydrogen gas, the foodstuff space (221) and the hydrogen space (222) being at least gas-conductively connected to one another, and the casing (210) or a sleeve (230) surrounding the hydrogen space (222) being dimensionally stable at a negative pressure in the hydrogen space (222) relative to an environment of the packaging (200) of at least 100 mbar. The method comprises at least the following steps: filling (110) the foodstuff at least into the foodstuff space (221), introducing (120) hydrogen gas at least into the hydrogen space (222), airtightly sealing (130) the casing (210) after the filling (110) and introduction (120), and generating (140) a negative pressure at least in the hydrogen space (222) relative to an environment of the packaging (200). The invention further relates to a packaging for use in a method according to the invention and to such use.

METHODS OF PACKAGING AND PRESERVING CRUSTACEANS

Methods are provided for storing and preserving comestible crustacean material, preferably so as to extend shelf life of the same. In one optional method, comestible crustacean material is placed in a product containing space of a storage container atop a platform of a support structure. The storage container includes an internal compartment having the product containing space. The support structure defines the platform for supporting the comestible crustacean material. The internal compartment further includes a reservoir, configured to retain liquid, below the platform. The platform and/or support structure are configured to direct liquid exuded from the comestible crustacean material to the reservoir. Optionally, the reservoir comprises an absorbent material for absorbing liquid in the reservoir.

A sealing station for a packaging machine, the sealing station may be a tray sealer. The sealing station includes an upper die with a sealing plate and a lower die with a tray holder for receiving at least one packaging tray to be sealed. A cutting blade is arranged within the sealing station, and cuts a lid for closing the packaging tray out of a top film. The cutting blade has an endless cutting edge for cutting out the lid along its contour. The cutting blade includes a first and a second blade section, for cutting out a first and second section of the contour of the lid respectively. The second blade section may produce a tear-off corner in the lid projecting beyond the edge region. The sealing station may include a first clamping jaw on the sealing plate, and a second clamping jaw on the tray holder.
