The unitary pusher arms of the present invention may be easily and quickly changed out of a receptive base to accommodate different log saw configurations. The increased modularity is an improvement over prior art pusher arms, which are difficult to change and generally require the loosening and fastening of several different fasteners. Not only are the present arms easy to change out, they may also be color coordinated with different product types so that an operator may quickly and easily identify the appropriate size and shaped pusher to be used with a given product. These advantages improve operational efficiency, reduce the likelihood of mismatched pusher and log size, and increase operator safety.

Each of the slats has a front edge and a rear edge located longitudinally apart from each other. The front edge and the rear edge are located at different vertical heights to create overlap between adjacent slats. The lower edge positioned vertically below the upper edge has an upper surface that curves downward from the conveying surface to the lower edge. The upper edge positioned vertically above the lower edge has a lower surface that curves downward from the upper edge towards the lower edge. A retention lip extends upward between the lower edge and the conveying surface to trap articles within the retention curve between the retention lip and the conveying surface.

A method, electromagnetic switch, controller and program product utilize multiple electromagnetic coils that, whenever it is desirable to divert a shoe, are operated in sequence to urge the shoe into a diverting path downstream of the electromagnetic switch. The multiple electromagnetic coils may also be used in combination with a downstream permanent magnet such that energization of the electromagnetic coils appropriately positions the shoe adjacent the permanent magnet such that the permanent magnet can further urge the shoe towards the diverting path.
