Provided is an elevator device, in which a hoisting machine includes a main shaft, a brake drum rotatable about an axis of the main shaft, and a brake unit arranged at a position on a radially outer side of the brake drum. The brake unit includes a movable member and presses the movable member in an obliquely upward direction against an outer peripheral surface of the brake drum to apply a braking force to the brake drum. The car guide rail is retained by an upper rail bracket at a position higher than a position of the machine base. The brake unit is arranged at a position higher than the machine base and lower than the upper rail bracket.

The invention relates to a support apparatus for an elevator car. The support apparatus comprises a support block for attaching to a sidewall of an elevator hoistway, the support block having an oblique surface. The support apparatus also comprises a sliding plate for mounting to the elevator car. The sliding plate is movable between an extended position and a retracted position. The sliding plate has an oblique surface facing the oblique surface of the support block when the sliding plate is in the extended position. The sliding plate is slideable over the oblique surface of the support block when being moved from the extended position to the retracted position. The support apparatus also comprises an actuator shaft attached to the sliding plate and an actuator configured to move the sliding plate using the actuator shaft from the extended position to the retracted position. The actuator is attachable to the elevator car.

Elevator and means for forming a safety space

An elevator includes at least an elevator car arranged to move reciprocally in an elevator hoistway and fitted on guide rails, a plurality of landing doors having landing door locks openable e.g. with a service key, and a safety arrangement arranged to form a safe space, preferably a working space, in the elevator hoistway below the elevator car, access to which safe space is enabled via at least one landing door in the proximity of the base of the elevator hoistway, and/or a safe space, preferably a working space, above the elevator car, to which access is enabled via at least one landing door leading to the roof of the elevator car, and in which elevator the aforementioned safe space has a minimum height. The formation of each safe space is arranged to be implemented as a consequence of the opening occurring, e.g. with a service key, from a floor level of a landing door enabling access into the elevator hoistway.

An elevator car (6) for moving in a hoistway (4) between a plurality of landings (8a-8d) includes a floor hatch (22) formed at a bottom of the elevator car (6) and allowing a person to access a space (24) in a portion of the hoistway (4) below the elevator car (6) from inside the elevator car (6). The elevator car (6) further includes at least one movable fixing element (34) that is movable between an elevator car fixing position in which it fixes the position of the elevator car (6) in a hoistway (4) at a predefined position above a bottom of the hoistway (4), and a released position, in which it does not fix the position of the elevator car (6) in the hoistway (4).
