A processor obtains an audio sample captured by an audio sensor associated with a device and/or image data captured by an image sensor associated with the device. The image data comprises a representation of one or more elevator buttons. The processor analyzes the audio sample to identify a floor name indicator in the audio sample and/or the image data to identify an activated elevator button from among the one or more elevator buttons represented by the image data; and determines a floor name based on the floor name indicator identified in the analyzed audio sample and/or a floor name indicator associated with the identified activated elevator button in accordance with the analyzed image data. The processor causes the determined floor name to be stored and/or provided for positioning purposes.

A non-contact control system includes a control circuit board, a Beacon Gateway, and a mobile electronic device with the original structure of the device to be controlled. A system and method is presented for hands-free operation of elevator using a smart phone or like device to display one or more colours that are read by a colour-detection device mounted in an elevator cabin and at each elevator landing. Different colours can be displayed by the smart phone or like device and detected by the colour-detection device where different can represent different commands to operate the elevator.

In methods and a system for enabling temporary interaction between a user device of a passenger and an elevator or an elevator group provided for public use in a public space, a database is maintained that includes information on at least one elevator or elevator group available for public use. A user device sends a request message that includes validation information. The request message is validated by verifying that the unique identification of the elevator or elevator group in said validation information is among said at least one elevator or elevator group available for public and that geographical locations of the user device and the elevator or elevator group fulfill a predefined proximity criterion. If the request message is deemed valid, temporary access is granted to an elevator application running on the user device for entering at least one call for elevator service via an elevator call API.

A method for object detection within an elevator car including: transmitting radar signals at a selected polarization into an elevator car towards an individual; receiving reflected radar signals at a reflected polarization; comparing the reflected polarization to the selected polarization; determining that the individual is in possession of a metal object in response to comparing the reflected polarization to the selected polarization; and activating an alert in response to the determining that the individual is in possession of the metal object.
