A process for combined removal of siloxanes and sulfur-containing compounds from biogas streams, such as streams from landfills or anaerobic digesters, comprises heating the biogas stream and optionally mixing it with air, feeding the gas to a first filter unit with high temperature resistance, injecting a dry sorbent into the first filter unit to capture siloxanes present in the gas, recycling part of the exit gas from the first filter unit to the inlet thereof for the sulfur-containing compounds to be captured by the dry sorbent or optionally to a second filter unit inlet for the sulfur-containing compounds to be captured by a sulfur-specific sorbent and recovering clean gas from the first or optionally from the second filter unit.
Zero emissions sulphur recovery process with concurrent hydrogen production
Disclosed is a process for the concurrent production of hydrogen and sulphur from a H.sub.2S-containing gas stream, with zero emissions. The method comprises the thermal oxidative cracking of H.sub.2S so as to form H.sub.2 and S.sub.2. Preferably, the oxidation is conducted using oxygen-enriched air, preferably pure oxygen. The ratio H.sub.2S/O.sub.2 in the feedstock is higher than 2:1, preferably in the range of 3:1-5:1.
A METHOD FOR INTER-BED COOLING IN WET GAS SULFURIC ACID PLANTS
In a method for cooling of process gas between catalytic layers or beds in a sulfuric acid plant, in which sulfuric acid is produced from feed gases containing sulfurous components like SO.sub.2, H.sub.2S, CS.sub.2 and COS or liquid feeds like molten sulfur or spent sulfuric acid, one or more boilers, especially water tube boilers, are used instead of conventional steam superheaters to cool the process gas between the catalytic beds in the SO.sub.2 converter of the plant. Thereby a less complicated and more cost efficient heat exchanger layout is obtained.
Claus unit treatment of shutdown tail gas
The process for configuring or reconfiguring a sulfur removal plant having a plurality of Claus units that is greater than the number of downstream tail gas treating units (TGTUs) is disclosed. The process allows for the regeneration of one of the Claus units without shutting down any of the downstream TGTUs or the other Claus units. Specifically, the regeneration tail gas can be diverted to the reaction furnace of an in-service Claus unit, thereby allowing excess oxygen to be used to regenerate the Claus unit more efficiently, and without exceeding environmental SO2 emission requirements.
PROCESS FOR PREPARING A CATALYST OR A TRAPPING MASS FROM MOLTEN SALTS
Process for preparing a catalyst or a trapping mass comprising the following steps: bringing a porous oxide support into contact with a metal salt comprising at least one metal belonging to groups VIB, VIIB, VIIIB, IB or IIB, of which the melting point of said metal salt is between 20 C. and 150 C., for a period of between 5 minutes and 5 hours in order to form a solid mixture, the weight ratio of said metal salt to said porous oxide support being between 0.1 and 1; heating the solid mixture with stirring at a temperature between the melting point of said metal salt and 200 C. and for 5 minutes to 12 hours; calcining the solid obtained in the preceding step at a temperature above 200 C. and below or equal to 1100 C. under an inert atmosphere or under an oxygen-containing atmosphere.
Systems and methods for separating hydrogen sulfide from carbon dioxide in a high-pressure mixed stream
Systems and methods for separating hydrogen sulfide from carbon dioxide in a high-pressure mixed stream are disclosed herein. The methods include receiving the high-pressure mixed stream in an oxidation reactor and at an inlet pressure of at least 0.3 megapascals. The high-pressure mixed stream includes 0.01 to 5 mole percent hydrogen sulfide and at least 90 mole percent carbon dioxide. The methods further include oxidizing the high-pressure mixed stream with an oxidant to generate a high-pressure oxidized stream, includes oxidized hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide, at an oxidation pressure of at least 0.3 megapascals. The methods also include separating the high-pressure oxidized stream into an oxidized hydrogen sulfide product and a carbon dioxide product and generating the carbon dioxide product at a pressure of at least 0.3 megapascals. The systems include the high-pressure mixed stream, an oxidation reactor, and a separation assembly.
PROCESS FOR PRODUCING A PURIFIED GAS STREAM
The invention relates to a process for removing hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide from a feed gas stream. H2S in the feed gas stream is converted to elemental sulfur in a Claus unit. At least a part of the gas stream obtained is contacted with an aqueous lean absorbing medium in an absorption zone at a pressure between 0.9 and 2 bara. The aqueous lean absorbing medium used comprises one or more amines chosen from: a polyamine in the absence of tertiary amine functionalities having a pKa sufficient to neutralize carbamic acid, the polyamine having at least one primary amine functionality having a pKa smaller than 10.0 at 25 C., a polyamine in the absence of tertiary amine functionalities having a pKa sufficient to neutralize carbamic acid, the polyamine having at least one secondary amine functionality having a pKa for each sorbing nitrogen smaller than 10.0 at 25 C. The process is improved as compared to a process involving Claus off-gas treatment with (activated) MDEA. Effective CO2 removal is achieved while at the same time a simplified line-up with less equipment can be used.
