COMPOSITION AND METHOD HAVING ENHANCED LSESr TO MAINTAIN AND PROMOTE URINARY AND PROSTATE FUNCTION IN A HUMAN
A dietary supplement composition is formulated in a therapeutic amount to maintain and promote urinary and prostate function in a human. The composition includes a shelf stable, supercritical CO.sub.2 fluid extracted, enhanced lipidosterolic extract of Serenoa repens (LSESr). The enhanced LSESr has a ratio of free fatty acids to total fatty acids that is greater than about 80.0% and an enrichment of lauric, myristic, oleic and linoleic acids as free fatty acids to total free fatty acids that is greater than about 82.0%.
TANNIN-CONTAINING GASTROINTESTINAL FORMULATIONS AND METHODS OF USE
Tannin-containing compositions and methods of using same to enhance or maintain immune function during simplified nutrition feeding. Pharmaceutical compositions, including enteral nutrition compositions, are provided. The compositions comprise such tannins as proanthocyanidins and/or hydrolysable tannins. Administering the tannins to the gastrointestinal tract of a subject receiving simplified nutrition, such as with enteral nutrition therapy or parenteral nutrition therapy, attenuates or prevents deleterious effects on the gastrointestinal immune system that would otherwise occur with the simplified nutrition.

Tannin-containing compositions and methods of using same to enhance or maintain immune function during simplified nutrition feeding. Disclosed herein is a nutritional composition having at least one protein, at least one fat, and at least one lipophilic compound, the composition comprising at least one assembly comprising at least one hydrophobic protein, monoglycerides and diglycerides (“MDG”) and at least one lipophilic compound, wherein at least 1% of the total MDG in the nutritional composition remains in the aqueous phase after centrifugation at 100,000×g for 1 hour at 20° C.
