DIRECT CAPTURE OF CARBON DIOXIDE

The present disclosure provides systems and methods for direct air capture of carbon dioxide or other gases through a calcium sorbent in a manner that allows for wide scale, relatively low cost implementation. In particular, a calcium sorbent may be provided as a substantially thin coating on one or more substrates and utilized for direct air capture of carbon dioxide through chemisorption. The carbonated sorbent may be disposed of for sequestration of the carbon dioxide or regenerated with capture of carbon dioxide released from the carbonated sorbent during the regeneration process.

A method for in-situ generation of nanoflower-like manganese dioxide catalyst on filter material is provided. The method comprises: immersing a filter material in a solution containing sodium lauryl sulfate and nitric acid; first modifying the surface of the filter material by using the sodium lauryl sulfate so that a charge layer is wound around the surface of the filter material and tightly absorbs H.sup.+ in an acid solution; and then adding potassium permanganate as an oxidant to react with H.sup.30 on the surface of the filter material to generate nano flower-like manganese dioxide in situ on the surface of the filter material, so as to obtain a composite filter material having a denitration function.

MASS FOR CAPTURING MERCAPTANS WHICH IS PREPARED USING MOLTEN SALTS

The invention describes a mass for scavenging mercaptans which is particularly suitable for the treatment of olefinic gasoline cuts containing sulfur such as gasolines resulting from catalytic cracking. The scavenging mass comprises an active phase based on group VIII, IB or IIB metal particles which is prepared by a step of bringing a porous support into contact with a metal salt of said group VIII, IB or IIB metal and a step heating the resulting mixture to a temperature above the melting point of said metal salt. The invention also relates to a process for using said scavenging mass for the adsorption of mercaptans.

A method of treating wood chips to be used as a media for ameliorating oil spills on land or water involves heating in a mixture of petroleum wax and vegetable oil to remove moisture content and open the pores of the wood chip to allow the oil/wax blend to penetrate into the interior of the wood chips and subsequently grinding up the chips to a predetermined mesh size. The ground chips impregnated with wax/oil are then blended with magnetic iron ore concentrate and packaged/bagged for later distribution on an oil slick. The magnetic iron ore concentrate clings to the ground, oil/wax coated wood chips and facilitates retrieving the ground chips that have absorbed the spilled oil using a magnetic pick-up.
