A cutting unit for thermoplastic pipes includes a ring rotating about an axis and in which a pipe is progressively moved in a sliding fashion such that a longitudinal axis of the pipe coincides with said axis of rotation and a cutting arm mounted on the ring. A distance measurement sensor located on the ring is configured for acquiring, during rotation of the ring, values representing a radial distance between the measurement sensor and an outer surface of the pipe. The distance is measured on a measurement plane transversal to the axis of rotation. The cutting unit also includes a processing and control unit operatively connected to the measurement sensor and configured for receiving the values measured and for calculating, on the basis of the values, at least one parameter representing a peripheral profile of the pipe on the measurement plane.

A bread cutting machine has a circular blade that is moveable in a guide gap through an extension gap of a machine housing from a waiting position into a cutting space. When the blade is in the waiting position, the guide gap is coverable by a rocker displaceable away from the guide gap simultaneously with the extension of the blade from the waiting position, whereby the guide gap is opened. A cover plate is rigidly fastened to a side surface of the rocker, projects vertically away from the rocker, and covers the extension gap whenever the blade is in the waiting position. By a positive guide, the cover plate is moveable away from the extension gap simultaneously with the movement of the rocker, whereby the extension gap is opened.

CORE SLABBING APPARATUS

An apparatus and method for removing sheet or web material from a roll employs an at least partially hollow cutting tube that rotates against a cull roll. The cutting tube has a slot along some of the length of the tube and carries a blade that is extendable from the slot. As the slot positions against the cull roll, the blade is extended and translated along the length of the slot to cut the material away from the roll.

Identifying printing substrate types

In an example method print media are advanced in a feeding direction to reach a cutting position, a cutter is advanced in a cutting direction, perpendicular to the feeding direction to cut the print media, friction between the cutter and the print medium is measured, and the print media are identified based on the measured friction.

Combination printer and cutting apparatus

A combination printer and cutting device for printing upon and cutting a web of media or tag stock into individual units. The device may cut vinyl, plastic, or RFID stock material as it moves through the printer in both back and forth directions. The device comprises a printer and a cutting apparatus that is further comprised of a carriage assembly and a movable cutter assembly. The cutter assembly is easily interchangeable and comprises a cutting element such as a wheel blade, and a pressure adjusting element for adjusting the amount of pressure applied by the cutting element to the stock material. Alternatively, the cutter assembly may be manufactured with a predetermined pressure load, but still permit an operator to adjust the depth of cut. The cutting apparatus is adaptable for use with both new and existing printers.

Bi-directional cutting modules

According to an example, a cutting module may comprise a carriage and a cutting blade, wherein the carriage may be capable of reciprocating movement along a cutting path. The carriage may be supported by a support structure and the cutting blade may have a fitting pin to engage with the carriage. During a first direction movement along the cutting path, the fitting pin may obtain a first cutting-edge angle. During a second direction movement along the cutting path, the fitting pin may obtain a second cutting-edge angle.
