Casting apparatus for manufacturing polymer film

A casting apparatus for manufacturing polymer film includes a die for discharging a molten polymer and having discharge direction oriented at a discharge angle offset from horizontal. The apparatus includes a first chill roll having a first diameter and a second chill roll having a second greater diameter. There is a first gap between the first chill roll and the second chill roll. The discharge angle is of a predetermined magnitude to gravity assist delivery of the molten polymer to the first gap. The second chill roll is positioned to gravity support the film exiting the first gap along a first length of a first side of the film. A first polishing roll is positioned downstream first and second chill rolls. The first polishing roll engages and cools a second length of a second opposite side of the film. The first length is substantially equal to the second length.

The present invention relates to a biaxially oriented formable polyester film having A/B/A layer structure and the process of preparing the same. The biaxially oriented formable polyester films exhibit improved Dart impact, elongation and formability comparable to nylon film which are used for thermoforming and cold forming applications.

INFLATABLE CELLULAR CUSHIONING ARTICLE WITH ENHANCED PERFORMANCE PROPERTIES

An inflatable cellular cushioning article has a plurality of inflatable chambers with each chamber comprising a plurality of inflatable cells connected in series with one another by connecting channels. The article is made from a first multilayer film sealed to itself or to a second film. The first film comprises a plurality of microlayers. At least 50 percent of the microlayers comprise a polymer selected from the group consisting of ethylene homopolymer, ethylene copolymer, propylene homopolymer, and propylene copolymer.

REINFORCED AROMATIC POLYCARBONATE RESIN SHEET OR FILM

Provided is an aromatic polycarbonate resin sheet/film which has excellent bending characteristics and surface smoothness. It is found that a sheet having excellent surface smoothness, which cannot be achieved by conventional sheets, can be obtained by adjusting sheet extrusion conditions for a polycarbonate resin sheet/film into which a reinforcing filler is blended. It is also found that a thermally shaped article having excellent appearance can be obtained by using this sheet in pressure molding or in thermal press molding.

Method and measurement device for monitoring stretchability in the production of stretch films in a cast film method

A method of monitoring stretchability of stretch films in a cast film method includes determining a position of a frost line of a film material, which is solidifying to form a film web, on a casting roller of a film machine, ascertaining a correlation of the determined position of the frost line with at least one target position, and comparing the ascertained correlation to at least one stretchability of the film material, which is assigned to the at least one target position.

A system and method for extruding film with a thickened profile section. In some embodiments, the film forms bags with integral zipper profiles. Plastic film is extruded to form a tube. During extrusion, each thickened profile section is radiantly cooled in a preferential manner before thinner sections of the film freeze. A freezing control device includes at least one radiant cooling plate that is operatively aligned with a thickened profile section. The device also includes a cooling fluid recirculation system configured to maintain the plate at a temperature below the temperature of the extruded tube. The plate can be adjustably mounted on a base for positioning the plate at the desired orientation for cooling the thickened profile section of the tube.

Multilayer films and laminates containing slip agents

The coextruded multilayer film has at least two layers, including a sealant layer and a second layer in contact with the sealant layer. The sealant layer contains (A) a first ethylene-based polymer having a density from 0.865 g/cc to 0.930 g/cc and a melt index from 0.5 g/10 min to 25 g/10 min; (B) an unsaturated primary fatty acid amide having a melting point of 100° C. or less; and (C) a saturated primary fatty acid amide having a melting point greater than 100° C. The unsaturated primary fatty acid amide and the saturated primary fatty acid amide have a weight ratio of from 3:1 to 1:6. The second layer contains a second ethylene-based polymer. The present disclosure also provides a laminate containing said sealant layer.
