Resin member machining method, resin member machining apparatus, and resin component manufacturing method

A method for processing a resin member includes: irradiating a first member comprising a resin with first light of a first wavelength that causes electronic excitation of the resin; and irradiating the resin electronically excited through irradiation with the first light with second light of a second wavelength longer than the first wavelength. A wavelength range of the second wavelength is within a wavelength range in which light absorption of the resin increases through electronic excitation of the resin.

A method and installation for joining a cover layer to an object in a continuous process. Joining is effected with the aid of a joining material having thermoplastic properties, wherein the joining material is arranged between the cover layer and the object and is liquefied using ultrasonic vibration energy. Before application of the ultrasonic vibration energy, the joining material is preheated in a contactless manner with the aid of electromagnetic induction in the region of the glass transition temperature of the joining material or above this glass transition temperature. The object is in particular a chip board and the cover layer an edge strip to be joined to an edge of the chip board.

Multilayer fluidic devices and methods for their fabrication

In an example of a method of making a flowcell, an organic solid support including sidewalls and a top is provided. A bottom surface of the organic solid support adjacent to the sidewalls provides a laser bonding foot. In the method, the laser bonding foot is bonded to an inorganic solid support to form a channel having sidewalls and a top defined by the organic solid support.

Sensors incorporated within a laser channel detect laser light upconverted by a dopant. The dopant is located after a delivery end of a laser delivery optical fiber and upconverts laser light that has traveled from a laser light source from a laser bank through one of a plurality of laser channels through to a location after the delivery end of a laser delivery optical fiber. In some embodiments, the dopant is positioned at the delivery end of the laser delivery optical fiber. In other embodiments, the dopant is positioned within a dummy part or on a surface of at least a work piece.

Plastic laser welding with partial masking

The embodiments described herein provide improved techniques for laser welding. These techniques can provide improved weld strength while reducing the potential for damage at the welding surface. In general, the techniques use a mask to selectively block a portion of the laser beam during welding. Specifically, the mask is made to include at least one laser light blocking feature and at least one laser light passing feature. The mask is positioned to be in contact with the plastic bodies that are to be welded together, with the laser light blocking feature and laser light passing feature proximate to the area that is to be welded. Then during welding the laser beam is operated to simultaneously impact the laser light blocking feature and pass through the laser light passing feature.
