A seat airbag apparatus for a vehicle is disclosed. A side cushion is deployed so as to protrude forward from a seatback in order to protect the lateral sides of an occupant, and a front cushion is deployed so as to protrude from the side cushion to the front of the occupant in order to protect the front side of the occupant. The deployment of the side cushion and the front cushion is limited by an upper dual-surface tether structure, formed by an upper-side surface tether and an upper-front surface tether, and a lower dual-surface tether structure, formed by a lower-side surface tether and a lower-front surface tether, thereby increasing force with which movement of the occupant is restricted, thus further enhancing an occupant protection effect.

A side airbag inflatable between an occupant of a vehicle seat and structure of the vehicle adjacent the vehicle seat. The side airbag includes a first airbag panel for being positioned facing away from the vehicle seat and a second airbag panel for being positioned facing the vehicle seat. The first and second panels define an inflatable volume of the side airbag. A tether assembly includes a first anchor panel attached to a first portion of the first airbag panel, a second anchor panel attached to a second portion of the first airbag panel, and a strap that interconnects the first anchor panel and the second anchor panel. The tether assembly is dimensioned and configured to limit movement of the first and second portions away from each other in response to inflation of the side airbag so that the side airbag assumes a curved shape when inflated.

Airbag system and method(s) of use thereof

The present disclosure relates to an airbag system which is operable to deploy in a vehicle crash event. The airbag system includes an airbag having an upper chamber, a lower chamber, an actuator, a tether, and an actuatable pin. In one example, the tether has a predetermined length and extends between the actuator and the lower chamber. The actuator is disposed at a predetermined lateral distance from the lateral chamber and is configured to inflate the upper chamber and the lower chamber to a predefined pressure. Furthermore, the actuatable pin is configured to maintain the tether in an indirect path when the airbag is not deployed and the actuatable pin is configured to allow the tether to have a direct path between the actuator and the lower chamber when the airbag is deployed.

An occupant protection apparatus includes: a vehicle seat arranged in an inner space of a side wall of a vehicle; a side airbag device provided in the side wall or the vehicle seat and including a side airbag to be inflated and deployed between the side wall and the vehicle seat. The vehicle seat includes: a pressure-receiving portion to receive a load from an occupant seated on the vehicle seat; and a frame to support the pressure-receiving portion. The occupant protection apparatus further comprising an electronic control circuit configured to perform moving the pressure-receiving portion so that the occupant is pushed away from the side wall before the occupant comes into contact with the side airbag at an activation time when the side airbag device is activated by an impact acting on the side wall from an outside of the vehicle and the side airbag is inflated and deployed.

The assembly includes an inflation restraint exterior to the inflation chamber. The inflation restraint includes a first end fixed to the first panel and a second end fixed to the second panel. The inflation restraint includes a releasable extension between the first end and the second end. The releasable extension is movable from an unreleased position to a released position as the airbag inflates to the inflated position.
