Bulkhead mounted airbag for front seats

A vehicle includes a bulkhead and an airbag inflatable to an inflated position. The airbag includes a forward-facing panel mounted to the bulkhead and a rearward-facing panel opposite the forward-facing panel. Then airbag in the inflated position has a left extension and a right extension extending from the rearward-facing panel, and an intermediate extension sandwiched between the left extension and the right extension. The intermediate extension extends from the rearward-facing panel farther than the left and right extensions. During a vehicle impact, the momentum of the occupant may move the occupant towards the airbag. The airbag may absorb energy from the head and knees of the occupant.

Vehicle airbag

A vehicle airbag includes a main panel to form a main chamber deployed toward an inner part of a vehicle, and a protrusion panel provided outside the main panel to form at least one protrusion chamber that communicates with the main chamber and protrudes toward the inner part of the vehicle based on the main chamber. The protrusion panel is folded to have a wrinkle part when the vehicle airbag is not inflated.

Active bolster

An active bolster for a vehicle is provided, wherein the bolster comprises an expansible hollow interior that is inflatable and is self-supporting in both an inflated and in an uninflated position. The bolster has an inflator module for inflating the expansible hollow interior. The bolster has an inner wall for projecting inwardly into the vehicle and away from the side of the vehicle on inflation of the expansible hollow interior. The bolster may have a relatively non-expansible component located between a first expansible chamber and a second expansible chamber. The bolster may comprise an outer wall having an attachment portion for attaching the outer wall to a portion of the side of the vehicle.

Embodiments also include a vehicle airbag assembly comprising an airbag including a first chamber and a second chamber and at least one internal tether coupled to the second chamber for restricting an inflated depth of the second chamber, where the first chamber has an unrestricted depth and a volume that is larger than a volume of the second chamber in an inflated state of the airbag.

After having deployed, the airbag has such a shape that a deployment amount, in a front-back direction, of the airbag near an upper part of the seat back differs from that near a lower part of the seat back. The airbag deploys in the seat back in such a way that, after having deployed, the airbag elastically supports an upper body of an occupant and elastically receives an impact force applied to a back surface of the seat back.

An inflatable airbag assembly, such as a knee airbag assembly, including a support strap, wherein the support strap may be secured to an inflatable airbag cushion. The support strap may be configured to direct the deployment trajectory of the airbag cushion such that the airbag cushion is deployed rearwardly and upwardly within a vehicle. The inflatable airbag assembly may be configured to prevent injury to an occupant's hip, femur, knee, and/or lower leg.

An airbag assembly includes a base member and an airbag supported by the base member and being inflatable to an inflated position. The airbag includes a panel and a plurality of sheets attached to the panel. The panel includes a first portion extending in a first direction from the base member to a distal end and a second portion extending in a second direction transverse to the first direction from the base member to a distal end. Each sheet is elongated in the first direction along the first portion of the panel and elongated in the second direction along the second portion of the panel. During a vehicle impact, the momentum of the occupant may move the occupant towards the airbag. The airbag may absorb energy from the head and knees of the occupant, which may assist in reducing injuries.

CARRIER FOR AIRBAG

A vehicle seat assembly includes a seat, an arm connected to the seat, a carrier supported by the arm, and an airbag supported by the carrier. The arm is moveable between a stowed position and a deployed position. The carrier is spaceable from the seat when the arm is in the deployed position. The airbag is inflatable to an inflated position in a direction toward the seat.
