An outside viewing device for a vehicle, having a camera that is housed in a casing having a frontal wall through which there passes an imaging window, and an internal partition which is parallel to the frontal wall and through which there passes an opening next to the imaging window. In addition, two peripheral wiper seals, disposed at the periphery of the window and the opening, delimit a guide in which a transparent screen slides, in a sealed manner, between at least two imaging positions, in each of which different surface portions of the screen are positioned next to the imaging window. Finally, a device for moving the screen is designed to slide the latter between its different positions.

Specifically, according to the disclosure, a cleaning control device may comprise a shield divided into a plurality of regions, a moving actuator moving the shield, a sensor detecting an object by transmitting and receiving a detection signal through some regions of the plurality of regions of the shield, and a controller generating and outputting a cleaning control signal to spray a cleaning liquid to a signal transmission region placed side-by-side with the sensor among the plurality of regions if a foreign body is present in the signal transmission region and generating and outputting a moving control signal to move a signal non-transmission region placed non-side-by-side with the sensor among the plurality of regions to a position of the signal transmission region.

Furthermore, various embodiments relate to performing image processing to produce a corrected image of a scene based at least partly on data corresponding to the detected defects. An occluded area on a vehicle sensor is identified by localizing the vehicle in space. A discrepancy between historic image data and real-time image data from the sensor is determined, and a cleaning actuator is actuated based on the determined discrepancy.

The device includes a cleaning unit, which is situated at an outside of the housing and is movable relative to the housing using a drive unit. The cleaning unit is designed to remove contaminants from the cover. The cleaning unit includes at least one first nozzle to spray a cleaning liquid onto the cover, and at least one second nozzle to blow a gas onto the cover.
