COMPOSITIONS FOR THE INHIBITION OF GIARDIA LAMBLIA
The present invention relates to a composition exhibiting a bile-salt hydrolase activity for its use for the treatment or the prevention of giardiasis, said composition comprising a bile-salt hydrolase (BSH)enzyme, a bacterium able to secrete a BSH, a recombinant host cell able to secrete a BSH, or a combination thereof. The present invention also relates to the use of a composition exhibiting a BSH activity for the treatment or the prevention of giardiasis, and to a pharmaceutical composition or a food composition comprising, as an active principle, a BSH, a lactic acid bacterium able to secrete a BSH, or a recombinant host cell able to secrete a BSH.

A composition for the treatment and/or nutrition of poultry such as broiler chickens is disclosed as comprising (i) one more probiotics which are commensal selected from one or more of Bifidobacterium animalis, Collinsella tanakaei, Lactobacillus reuteri, Anaerostipes, Lactobacillus crispatus, Pediococcus acidilactici, Lactobacillus pontis, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, Coprococcus catus, Roseburia intestinalis, Anaerostipes butyraticus, Butyricicoccus, Lactobacillus johnsonii, and Ruminococcus sp.; and (ii) a prebiotic material. The application also discloses the use of such a composition for the treatment of enteric disease in poultry, such as necrotic enteritis.

The subject invention provides compositions for promoting good health. Specifically, the subject composition can be used for alleviating symptoms of indigestion, abdominal pain, and cephalic syndrome, including in healthy subjects. In preferred embodiments, the compositions comprise an effective amount of one or more Lactobacillus isolates. Preferably, the bacteria used as an active ingredient in the compositions of the subject invention are of the L. johnsonii N6.2 strain. Novel Lactobacillus Having Various Functions, and Use Thereof
The present invention provides novel Lactobacillus sp. strains, novel Bifidobacterium sp. strains, or lactic acid bacteria mixtures thereof, which are isolated from kimchi or human feces. A certain Lactobacillus sp. strain or certain Bifidobacterium sp. strain according to the present invention is isolated from kimchi or human feces, and thus is highly safe, and has various physiological activities such as antioxidant activity, ?-glucuronidase inhibitory activity, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) production inhibitory activity or tight junction protein expression-inducing activity. Accordingly, a certain Lactobacillus sp. strain, certain Bifidobacterium sp. strain or mixture thereof according to the present invention may be used as a functional food or medicinal material useful for the prevention, alleviation or treatment of intestinal damage, liver injury, allergic disease, inflammatory disease, or obesity.
Novel Lactobacillus and Composition for Preventing, Improving, or Treating Degenerative Brain Diseases or Cognitive Function Disorders
The present invention provides a novel lactobacillus and a use for same, the lactobacillus being separated from kimchi and thus highly safe, and having various types of biological activity such as memory improving activity, tight junction protein expression inducing activity, antioxidation activity, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) generation-suppressing activity, and ?-glucuronidase inhibiting activity. The novel lactobacillus according to the present invention may be used as a functional food medicine material for preventing, improving, or treating degenerative brain diseases or cognitive function disorders.
