Probiotics and fermentation metabolites for the prevention and treatment of disease conditions in animals
The present invention is directed to compositions comprising a mixture of microbes and the metabolites produced when the microbes are grown together. The invention is further directed to methods for making and using the compositions.
Probiotic composition and feed additive
A probiotic, useable as a feed additive, particularly for animals, that includes live, viable beneficial bacteria strains. Because the beneficial bacteria are alive, the probiotic has a capacity to kill and inhibit the growth of pathogens such as E. coli and Salmonella. In certain select combinations, the probiotic bacteria have shown a greater than 93% reduction in E. coli and a greater than 97% reduction in Salmonella. Among other realized beneficial effects of the probiotics such as improved feed efficiency, increased milk production and enhanced pregnancy rates, pathogen inhibition has been observed in beef cattle and dairy cattle, as well as their calves. Probiotic mixtures variously containing MB101 and/or MB102 Lactobacillus animalis have shown consistent E. coli and Salmonella inhibition rates approaching 100%.
METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS FOR IMPROVING GROWTH AND PERFORMANCE
Compositions including a bacterial species or a combination of bacterial species and methods of using those compositions are described. In some embodiments, use of the compositions prevents disease and/or promotes growth in an animal. In some embodiments, the animal is a turkey. In some embodiments, the composition is antibiotic-free.
COMBINED PRE- AND PRO-BIOTIC COMPOSITION
The present invention relates to a new method for producing a novel fermented plant material comprising a high content of lactic acid bacterial strains and a high content of glucosinolates having nutritional and/or pharmacological effects.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING DOUBLE-STRANDED RNA-RICH LACTIC ACID BACTERIUM, AND SAID LACTIC ACID BACTERIUM
An object of the present invention is to provide a method for efficiently obtaining a lactic bacterium having a high double-stranded RNA content obtained by the method. The object is achieved by: (1) a method for producing a double-stranded RNA-containing lactic acid bacterium, including a step of culturing a lactic acid bacterium under at least one condition of an aeration condition and a low-temperature condition lower than an optimum temperature, thereby obtaining the double-stranded RNA-containing lactic acid bacterium; (2) a double-stranded RNA-containing lactic acid bacterium, in which the content of double-stranded RNA is 2.0 times or more as compared with the content of double stranded RNA when a bacterium of the same strain is cultured for the same culture time under an optimum temperature and non-aeration condition; or the like.
Pediococcus acidilactici derived antimicrobial hexapeptide and preparation method thereof
A Pediococcus acidilactici derived antimicrobial hexapeptide and a preparation method thereof are disclosed herein. The antimicrobial peptide ENGEEE (SEQ ID NO: 1) is reported for the first time. Antimicrobial peptide lactein R16 has good pH stability and thermal stability, has an effect on inhibiting Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus and is capable of effectively reducing the amount of the Escherichia coli in soybean meal. Secondly, the antimicrobial peptide lactein R16 has a certain effect on proliferating Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Lactobacillus plantarum and has certain capability of clearing hydrogen peroxide, hydroxyl radicals, DPPH radicals and superoxide anions. The antimicrobial peptide lactein R16 can be used for biological control and can be used as a feed additive to play important roles in substituting antibiotics and solving the feed safety problem.
PROBIOTIC PATHOGEN INHIBITION COMPOSITION AND METHOD
A bacterial composition and method that inhibits E. coli O157:H7 growth by as much as 93% and Salmonella growth by as much as 97%, together with commensurate inhibition rates against the Big-Six Escherichia coli strains referred to as the non-O157 STECs that include E. coli O121:H19; E. coli O45:H2; E. coli O103:H11; E. coli O145, E. coli O26:H11; and E. coli O111. The composition is constituted of various combinations of the following unique pathogen-inhibiting bacteria: (1) Lactobacillus animalis; (2) Enterococcus faecium (3) Pediococcus acidilactici.
FREEZE-DRIED PROBIOTIC FOODSTUFFS
Compositions wherein foodstuffs act as carriers of freeze-dried probiotics provide new means for administration of probiotics. The products that are easily shipped may be eaten as purchased or mixed with other ingredients to provide variety in the diet while administering beneficial probiotic organisms to the gastrointestinal tract.
Animal feed compositions and feed additives
The present invention relates to pre-, pro-, and postbiotic compositions and methods of use for improving the health and nutrition of commercial livestock and companion pets.
USE OF LACTIC ACID BACTERIUM SET FOR PREVENTING OR TREATING NSAID-INDUCED GASTRIC ULCER
The present invention provides a method for preventing and/or treating a NSAID-induced gastric ulcer. The method comprises administrating an effective amount of a lactic acid bacterium set to a subject. The lactic acid bacterium set comprises Lactobacillus plantarum GKD7 and Pediococcus acidilactici GKA4.
