Rotation of the spool in a first direction retracts the guidewire and the spool wire around the spool. The apparatus also includes a wire connector that operatively couples the spool wire and the guidewire together. The apparatus further includes a housing that houses the spool. The housing includes first and second apertures. The first aperture is sized to prevent the wire connector from passing through the first aperture but allow the guidewire and the spool wire to pass through the first aperture. The second aperture is sized to allow the wire connector and the guidewire and the spool wire to pass through the second aperture. The first and second apertures merge together such that the guidewire and the spool wire may move between the first and second apertures.

The shackle is movable between a releasing position disengaged from the insertion section and a locking position engaged with the insertion section. The communication element extends in the reel and covers a peripheral aperture in the insertion section as the reel is supported on the base.

A hose reel includes a frame, a reel, a rewind mechanism with a spring and a guide mechanism with a guide. The guide mechanism moves the guide back and forth on a path while the reel is rotated for distributing the hose evenly onto the reel by the guide. To obtain a freestanding hose reel with a rewind mechanism the hose reel includes a ground support with contact areas supporting the hose reel from a base. The frame is attached to the ground support in a position where the rotation axis of the reel is perpendicular relatively to the base, and the reel is provided with a hose joint in a lowermost part of the reel and the guide mechanism is configured to move the guide to a lowermost point of the path when the hose is completely pulled out from the reel.
