Provided is an absorber that removes sulfur oxide in a flue gas with an absorbent, an absorbent storing unit that stores the absorbent that has absorbed the sulfur oxide, an oxidation-reduction potential meter that measures an oxidation-reduction potential of the absorbent in the absorbent storing unit, a reducing additive supplying unit that supplies a sulfur oxoacid reducing additive into the absorbent storing unit, and a control device that controls the reducing additive supplying unit based on a measured value of the oxidation-reduction potential of the absorbent measured with the oxidation-reduction potential meter, wherein the reducing additive supplying unit supplies the sulfur oxoacid reducing additive when the measured value of the oxidation-reduction potential has exceeded an upper limit of an appropriate range of the oxidation-reduction potential.

An automatic tuning control system and method for controlling air pollution control systems such as a dry flue gas desulfurization system is described. The automatic tuning control system includes one or more PID controls and one or more supervisory MPC controller layers. The supervisory MPC controller layers are operable for control of an air pollution control system and operable for automatic tuning of the air pollution control systems using particle swarm optimization through simulation using one or more dynamic models, and through control system tuning of each of the PID controls, MPC controller layers and an integrated MPC/PID control design.

Methods for removing contaminants from exhaust gases
Industrial gas streams such as flue gas streams are treated for nitrogen oxides and other contaminants in dry or semi-dry scrubbers. After the flue gas stream has been contacted with a sorbent, ozone is mixed downstream into the flue gas stream thereby oxidizing the nitrogen oxides and other contaminants. The oxidized contaminants is contacted with sorbent present in the gas stream in the remaining height or volume of the scrubber downstream of ozone injection; and The sorbent is then separated from the flue gas stream leaving the dry or semi-dry scrubber.
