Open-Cell Foam Environmental Indicator, and Methods of Use
A method of removing and detecting the presence of substances from at least one of a body of water and the air. The method includes placing into the body of water or into the air an open-cell foam material, removing separate portions of the open-cell foam material from the water or air at different exposure times after the open-cell foam material was placed into the water or air, and determining the presence in the removed separate portions of one or more substances that were removed from the water or air by the open-cell foam material.
MATERIALS FOR HYDROPHILIC INTERACTION CHROMATOGRAPHY AND PROCESSES FOR PREPARATION AND USE THEREOF FOR ANALYSIS OF GLYCOPROTEINS AND GLYCOPEPTIDES
The invention relates to poly-amide bonded hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) stationary phases and novel HILIC methods for use in the characterization of large biological molecules modified with polar groups, known to those skilled in the art as glycans. The invention particularly provides novel, poly-amide bonded materials designed for efficient separation of large biomolecules, e.g. materials having a large percentage of larger pores (i.e. wide pores). Furthermore, the invention advantageously provides novel HILIC methods that can be used in combination with the stationary phase materials described herein to effectively separate protein and peptide glycoforms by eliminating previously unsolved problems, such as on-column aggregation of protein samples, low sensitivity of chromatographic detection of the glycan moieties, and low resolution of peaks due to restricted pore diffusion and long intra/inter-particle diffusion distances.

There is also provided a method of preparing a composite material, comprising the step of mixing a solution containing a plurality of activated metal and silica particles with a polymer solution to thereby form said composite material, wherein said composite material comprises a porous silica particle, a plurality of metal particles disposed within the pores of said silica particle and a polymeric coating that at least partially encapsulates said silica particle.
ADSORBENT PARTICLES, BASE PARTICLE, PACKED COLUMN, AND METHOD FOR RECOVERING RARE-EARTH ELEMENT
Adsorbent particles each containing: a carrier particle containing an organic polymer containing a monomer unit derived from a styrene-based monomer; a hydrophilic organic compound adhered to a surface of the carrier particle; and a diglycolic acid residue bonded to the hydrophilic organic compound. When a BET specific surface of the adsorbent particles as determined by adsorption of nitrogen gas is X.sub.0 and a BET specific surface area of the adsorbent particles as determined by adsorption of water vapor is X.sub.1, X.sub.1/X.sub.0 is 0.10 to 1.0.
SUPPORTED POLY(ALLYL)AMINE AND DERIVATIVES FOR CO2 CAPTURE FROM FLUE GAS OR ULTRA-DILUTE GAS STREAMS SUCH AS AMBIENT AIR OR ADMIXTURES THEREOF
Supported amine polymer adsorbents based on polymers containing only or primarily primary amines sites are to be used as regenerable adsorbents for CO.sub.2 capture from ultra-dilute gas streams, such as ambient air, or from mixtures of gases containing preferably at least 10% oxygen. and can also be useful for use at the moderate gas pressures found in typical post-combustion capture processes, such as flue gas from large point sources such as coal-fired power plants. Preferred supported solid amine adsorbents of this invention are based on poly(allylamine) (“PAA”) and poly(vinyl amine) (“PVAm”), both of which are linear polymers, and their derivatives, containing substantially all primary amine groups, supported on substrates. Preferred such substrates include silica mesocellular foam (MCF) and mesoporous-.gamma.-alumina, as well on mesoporous-.gamma.-alumina coated throughout the pores of MCF, most preferably of monolithic structure. Preferred derivatives include the guanidinylated and cross-linked poly(allylamine) materials.

The silica gel has a spherical shape, a particle size ranging from 1 mm to 5 mm inclusive, an average pore diameter ranging from 10 nm to 100 nm inclusive, a pore volume ranging from 0.1 cm.sup.3/g to 1.3 cm.sup.3/g inclusive, and a waterproof property N that is defined by an expression (1) and that is not lower than 45%,
N=(W/W.sub.0)×100 (1) where N is the waterproof property in percentage (%) of the silica gel, W.sub.0 is a total number of particles of the silica gel immersed in water, W is a number of particles of the silica gel not subjected to breakage out of W.sub.0.
CORE-SHELL STRUCTURE POLYMER MAGNETIC NANOSPHERES WITH HIGH Cr (VI) ADSORPTION CAPACITY, PREPARATION METHOD AND APPLICATION
The invention discloses a core-shell structure polymer magnetic nanosphere with a high Cr (VI) adsorption capacity and its preparation method and application. The preparation method includes: adding Fe.sub.3O.sub.4 powder into a mixed solution of water and ethanol, dispersing Fe.sub.3O.sub.4 powder in the solution evenly by ultrasound, sequentially adding resorcinol and formaldehyde into the suspension to adjust a pH, stirring and reacting to obtain Fe.sub.3O.sub.4@RF evenly dispersed in a chitosan solution, dropwise adding the prepared suspension into a mixed solution of paraffin and span 80, stirring for a period of time, adding a glutaraldehyde aqueous solution, stirring and reacting to obtain a magnetic chitosan nanosphere. The magnetic chitosan nanosphere prepared may be applied to adsorbing Cr (VI) in a water solution.
