A filter for a smoking article comprises a mouth end filter segment and a rod end filter segment. The rod end filter segment has a passage extending longitudinally therethrough. The passage has a diameter of about 1.0 mm or greater. In one embodiment, the rod end filter segment is comprised of an infinite pressure drop material. In another embodiment, the rod end filter segment is comprised of a low pressure drop material having a hollow tubular element disposed within to define the passage with an inner diameter greater than about 1.55 mm. Air dilution means are disposed in one of said filter segments to admit ventilating air into the filter.

A flavoring device includes a three-dimensional shape with a surface enclosing an inner volume, wherein the surface includes a first part directed outwardly of the three-dimensional shape and a second part being the lateral area of a cylindrically shaped hole protruding through the flavoring device, wherein the flavoring device includes a frame arranged at the surface of the three-dimensional shape and framing the inner volume at least in part, wherein the flavoring material is arranged within the frame, wherein the frame and the flavoring material are permeable to an air flow directed from a surrounding of the flavoring device through the first part of the surface, through the inner volume, thereby interacting with the flavoring material, and through the second part of the surface into the hole, in which the smoking article is arrangeable. A tobacco smoke filter or filter element comprising a stiff outer wrapper engaged around a downstream thermoformed core of tobacco smoke filtering material and a further core longitudinally aligned therewith; the downstream thermoformed core having a profiled outer surface which defines with the stiff outer wrapper at least one longitudinally extending channel which extends the length of the downstream core.

A smoking product includes: a smoking material portion which is wrapped by a smoking material wrapper; a filter portion whose upstream end portion is combined with the smoking material portion, which includes a capsule containing a flavoring, and which is wrapped by a filter wrapper; and a tipping wrapper which surrounds at least a partial region of the smoking material portion and the filter portion so that the smoking material portion and the filter portion are combined, wherein the tipping wrapper includes a first perforation region including a plurality of perforations formed along an outer circumferential surface of the tipping wrapper and a second perforation region including a plurality of perforations formed downstream of the first perforation region and along the outer circumferential surface of the tipping wrapper, and the capsule is disposed downstream of the first perforation region and upstream of the second perforation region.

A smoking article, comprises a first and a second engaging surface (233a, 233b) spaced circumferentially, and a control element (250) movable between the first and second engaging surfaces. A ventilation area (270) is configured to be selectively covered by the movable control element. The control element comprises a first limiting edge configured to engage with the first engaging surface and a second limiting edge configured to engage with the second engaging surface to limit rotational movement.

A method of manufacturing a compressed rod of web material for the filter rod of a aerosol-generating article, comprising: supplying a feed of web material (140) from a supply apparatus (110); drawing the web material (140) through a filter rod manufacturing apparatus; introducing a curved ridge (146B) into the central portion of the width wise cross-section of the web material (140) as it approaches contact with the interior of a folding funnel (120), by drawing the web material (140) across a forming surface (130 A) of a former (130) that contacts a central portion of the web material (140), in which the forming surface (130A) deflects the central portion of the web material (140) from a line extending between where the web material (140) leaves the supply apparatus (110) and the centre of an outlet (120B) of the folding funnel; and folding the web material (140) in the folding funnel (120) to form a compressed rod of web material.

A filter for an aerosol generating article includes a first end for attachment to an aerosol generating article; a second end which is a mouth end which can be received in the mouth of a user; and tipping paper wrapped around the filter. The tipping paper provides four haptic regions which provide different touch experiences for a user's lips at the mouth end, wherein first and second haptic regions provide a first touch experience and third and fourth haptic regions provide a second touch experience. Rotation of the filter allows different haptic regions to contact the user's lips, and haptic regions arranged on opposing sides of the filter may provide a same or different touch experience for both the upper and lower lip of the user.

Features include a hollow tube, which may be comprised of various materials, including the material for vaporization itself, within the engineered material, such as tobacco, for efficient vaporization. Other features include a hollow, inverted cone to permit air ingress in a closed bottomed HNB cigarette, and a capsule cigarette designed to retain loose leaf and original material for clean vaporization.
