SIDE AIRBAG DEVICE FOR A VEHICLE
A side airbag device for a vehicle includes a lower chamber and an upper chamber to protect a passenger from a side impact in the event of a vehicle collision. The upper chamber is bent towards the passenger by a connecting tether to support a passenger's neck region and prevent the neck from being twisted. The restraint belt forms an inserting space in front of a passenger when the upper chamber is bent so that a passenger's shoulder region is inserted into the inserting space when the passenger is moved forwards by collision inertia. The passenger's shoulder region is surrounded and supported by the restraint belt so that the passenger's body is restrained by a seat. A passenger is protected from impact and simultaneously the passenger is restrained by the seat to minimize an injury.
VEHICLE AIRBAG
A passive restraint includes inflatable members inflatable to an inflated position. The inflatable members are elongated along a longitudinal axis and spaced from each other in a lateral direction in the inflated position. The passive restraint includes uninflatable panels arranged in an alternating arrangement with the inflatable members. Each panel is elongated in the lateral direction when the inflatable members are inflated and extends from one of the inflatable members to another one of the inflatable members.
Seat airbag assembly
An assembly includes a vehicle seat including a seat back, an upper airbag mounted to the seat back, a lower airbag mounted to the seat back below the upper airbag, a flexible conduit fluidly coupling the upper airbag and the lower airbag, and a device actuatable between a first state permitting airflow through the conduit and a second state blocking airflow through the conduit.
OVERHEAD AIRBAG ASSEMBLIES
Airbag assemblies including a housing assembly to be mounted above a vehicle occupant position, an inflator, and an inflatable cushion are provided. The inflatable cushion can include first and second lateral chambers and a frontal chamber disposed between the first and second lateral chambers. Airbag assemblies including a first inflatable cushion that is configured to deploy at a first lateral side and forward of a vehicle occupant position and a second inflatable cushion that is configured to deploy at a second lateral side and forward of the vehicle occupant position are also provided.
Vehicle seat assembly including airbag
A seat assembly for a vehicle includes a seatback and a seat bottom extending away from the seatback. An airbag is supported by the seat bottom and includes a middle member having a first end and a second end. The middle member is spaced from the seatback. The airbag includes a first side member extending from the first end of the middle member toward the seatback, and a second side member extending from the second end of the middle member toward the seatback. When inflated in response to a sensed impact of the vehicle, the middle member, the first side member, and the second side member extend around the occupant. One leg of the occupant is disposed between the middle member and the first side member, and the other leg of the occupant is disposed between the middle member and the second side member.
Airbag restraint system
A restraint system includes a curtain airbag having an outboard layer and an inboard layer, an extension layer fixed to the inboard layer, and an inflator. The outboard and inboard layers define a first inflation chamber therebetween. The extension layer defines a second inflation chamber between the extension layer and the inboard layer. The inflator is in communication with the first and second inflation chambers. The first and second inflation chambers are fluidly isolated from each other.
ACTIVE BOLSTER
An active bolster for a vehicle is provided, wherein the bolster comprises an expansible hollow interior that is inflatable and is self-supporting in both an inflated and in an uninflated position. The bolster has an inflator module for inflating the expansible hollow interior. The bolster has an inner wall for projecting inwardly into the vehicle and away from the side of the vehicle on inflation of the expansible hollow interior. The bolster may have a relatively non-expansible component located between a first expansible chamber and a second expansible chamber. The bolster may comprise an outer wall having an attachment portion for attaching the outer wall to a portion of the side of the vehicle.
DUAL CHAMBER AIRBAG WITH ASYMMETRICALLY TUNABLE PARAMETERS AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME
Embodiments include a vehicle airbag assembly comprising an airbag including a first chamber and a second chamber, a first internal vent permitting gas entry into the first chamber, and a second internal vent permitting gas entry into the second chamber, where the first chamber has a greater volume than the second chamber in an inflated state of the airbag, and the first internal vent is configured for a larger gas flow than the second internal vent. Embodiments also include a vehicle airbag assembly comprising an airbag including a first chamber and a second chamber and at least one internal tether coupled to the second chamber for restricting an inflated depth of the second chamber, where the first chamber has an unrestricted depth and a volume that is larger than a volume of the second chamber in an inflated state of the airbag.
