An improved process for operating a wiper blade is also provided in which the wiper blade has a blade with an outer surface and terminating in a lip tip. The improvement involves curing a liquid silicone rubber to adhere a permanent silicone outer coating at least to said lip tip and then movably contacting said lip tip with a windshield.

The two wiper blades (2, 3) forming the tandem wiper blade (1) are integrally joined together at the location of their wiping heads (4) facing towards each other, wherein the tandem wiper blade (1) is cut into the two separate wiper blades (2, 3) along their wiping heads (4) facing towards each other.

In order to improve the wear resistance, wiping characteristics and wiping quality of the wiper rubber (10), the surface of the wiper rubber substructure (1) at least in a partial region (2c, 2c) of the wiper lip section (2) has been treated with ultraviolet radiation. The present invention further relates to a process for producing a wiper rubber, to a correspondingly produced wiper rubber and to a windshield wiper equipped therewith.

A wiper system for vehicles is provided. The system includes a heated wiper blade assembly, a heated cowl assembly and a controller. The controller receives input from one or more sensors or systems and causes a power source to provide, reduce or stop power to heating elements in the blade and/or cowl depending upon sensed conditions. At least some components in the assembly comprise thermally conductive polymers. The system provides surprisingly advantageous results in that it is effective for melting and clearing ice and snow with a lower than expected pull on a power source such as a battery.
