A method to automatically activate at least one cold weather feature of a vehicle includes determining if the vehicle is in a state for activating at least one cold weather feature, and then determining at least one cold weather condition exists for activating at least one cold weather feature. When it is determined that at least one cold weather condition exists the at least one cold weather feature is automatically activated.

Vision system for a vehicle

A vehicular vision system includes a driver-side exterior mirror assembly, a passenger-side mirror assembly and an interior mirror assembly. The fields of view of the mirror reflective elements of the exterior mirror assemblies are adjustable by the driver via a respective actuator. The exterior mirror assemblies include respective cameras that each have a respective rearward field of view that supplements the field of view of the mirror reflective element when viewed by the driver of the vehicle. A video display is disposed behind the mirror reflector of an interior mirror reflective element such that displayed video images are viewable through the mirror reflector of the interior mirror reflective element. The video display includes a driver-side display portion and a passenger-side display portion that each display images derived from image data captured by the respective camera while not displaying images derived from image data captured by the other camera.

Multi-sensor precipitation-classification apparatus and method

A vehicle is disclosed that uses data from different types of on-board sensors to determine whether meteorological precipitation is failing near the vehicle. The vehicle may include an on-board camera capturing image data and an on-board accelerometer capturing accelerometer data. The image data may characterize an area in front of or behind the vehicle. The accelerometer data may characterize vibrations of a windshield of the vehicle. An artificial neural network may run on computer hardware carried on-board the vehicle. The artificial neural network may be trained to classify meteorological precipitation in an environment of the vehicle using the image data and the accelerometer data as inputs. The classifications of the artificial neural network may be used to control one or more functions of the vehicle such as windshield-wiper speed, traction-control settings, or the like.

WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEM FOR A VEHICLE

A windshield wiper system for a vehicle. In one example, the windshield wiper system includes a windshield wiper having a wiper arm, a wiper blade, a wiper arm drive and a washing nozzle, and an evaluation unit. The washing nozzle is configured to be moved along a windshield and to dispense a washing liquid The evaluation unit is configured to determine a partial area of the windshield of the vehicle to be cleaned The partial area is an area which can be reached by the wiper blade to control the wiper arm drive to move the wiper blade from a parking position of the wiper blade to the partial area and to activate the dispensing of the washing liquid upon reaching the partial area and to control the wiper arm drive to only sweep the partial area for cleaning by means of an oscillating movement.

Systems and methods for controlling a window heating element

The disclosure describes systems and methods for controlling a heating element of a window of a vehicle. The systems and methods include capturing an image of the window with a camera of the vehicle. The image is analyzed to determine a state of the window and the heating element is controlled based on the state of the window.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR AUTOMATED CLEANING

The present disclosure provides automatic cleaning system and method. The automatic cleaning system includes a control unit, a Micro Control Unit (MCU), a cleaning device and a sensor device. The control unit is configured to determine a cleaning type for cleaning a protective cover of a camera based on an image captured by the camera and the measured temperature and humidity on the outer surface of the protective cover. The control unit is also configured to generate a cleaning instruction based on the cleaning type. The control unit is also configured to send the instruction to the MCU. The MCU is configured to control the cleaning device to clean the protective cover of the camera in accordance with the cleaning instruction in response to receiving the instruction sent from the control unit.

SENSOR CLEANING SYSTEM

A system includes a processor and a memory. The memory stores instructions executable by the processor to detect an object exterior to a vehicle, and to actuate a fluid dispenser device based on an opacity of a window and a location of the detected object.

Illumination for detecting raindrops on a pane by means of a camera

A device for detecting rain on a pane includes a camera, a lighting source for emitting light and a diffusion element. The light emitted by the lighting source is diffused through and emerges as a light sheet from the diffusion element. The camera, the lighting source and the diffusion element are configured and arranged so that the camera can detect a signal from an image of the light sheet that is emitted by the lighting source, diffused through the diffusion element, impinges on the pane and is reflected or scattered by the pane and/or a raindrop on the pane. The signal detected by the camera is evaluated to detect whether there is rain on the pane.

Predictive windshield wiper system

A windshield-wiper system includes a precipitation-detector, a windshield-wiper actuator, an object-detector, and a controller. The precipitation-detector detects precipitation proximate to a host-vehicle. The windshield-wiper actuator clears the precipitation from a windshield of the host-vehicle. The object-detector detects a distance of an object to the host-vehicle. The controller is in communication with the precipitation-detector, the windshield-wiper actuator, and the object-detector. The controller determines when the precipitation is present based on the precipitation-detector, determines the distance from the object to the host-vehicle based on the object-detector, and adjusts a speed of the windshield-wiper actuator when the precipitation is detected and the object is less than a distance-threshold away from the host-vehicle.

RAIN SENSOR SYSTEM AND VEHICLE

A rain sensor system for measuring a quantity of rain on a window of a vehicle is provided. The rain sensor system comprises a camera device configured to capture images of an area surrounding the vehicle using camera optics; and a rain sensor including a transmitter and a receiver, the transmitter being configured to emit or transmit light and the receiver being configured to receive measurement light that is emitted or transmitted by the transmitter and guided to the receiver by the window. The transmitter and the receiver are arranged at a distance (d) from each another, and the receiver and the camera optics of the camera device are different components.
