ILLUMINATION SYSTEM HAVING LIGHT GUIDES WITH DIFFUSER ELEMENTS THAT EMIT RADIALLY
An illumination system for medical therapeutic and/or diagnostic system is provided. The illumination system includes a laser light source and a light guide. The light guide has a proximal end that is connectable and/or assignable to the one laser light source. The light guide has a distal end with a diffuser element having a radial, spherical emission characteristic. The diffuser element includes a diffuser main body made of an inorganic material, in particular a glass, a glass ceramic, a glass-like substance or a composite substance of the aforementioned substances. The diffuser main body has a scattering element and has a surface that is pore-free and smooth.
ANTIMICROBIAL PHASE-SEPARATING GLASS AND GLASS CERAMIC ARTICLES AND LAMINATES
A glass laminate for an architectural element has a glass substrate coupled to the architectural element and defines a primary surface facing away from the architectural element. A phase-separable glass cladding is coupled to the primary surface. The cladding has an interconnected matrix with a first phase composition and a second phase that has a second phase composition different than the first phase composition. The second phase is distributed throughout the interconnected matrix. A copper phase is distributed within the interconnected matrix. The glass cladding has an antimicrobial log kill rate greater than about 4 as measured by an EPA Copper Test Protocol.
Magnetic-disk glass substrate
A magnetic-disk glass substrate containing an alkali metal component as a glass composition includes a pair of main surfaces and an outer circumferential side edge surface that is a mirror surface. The outer circumferential side edge surface includes a surface with a roughness percentage that is 40% or more when a bearing ratio of a roughness cross-sectional area is 50%, in a bearing ratio curve of roughness cross-sectional areas obtained when a surface roughness of the outer circumferential side edge surface obtained by etching the outer circumferential side edge surface by 2.5 μm is measured.
Transparent substrate with multilayer antireflective film containing an oxide of molybdenum
Provided is an antireflective-film attached transparent substrate having a luminous transmittance of 20% to 84% and a b* value of a transmission color being 5 or smaller under a D65 light source, in which the antireflective film has a luminous reflectance being 1% or lower and a sheet resistance being 10.sup.4 Ω/□ or higher, and in which the antireflective film has a multilayer structure built up of at least two layers, at least one layer is constituted mainly of silicon oxide, and at least another layer is constituted mainly of a mixed oxide of at least one oxide of Mo and W and at least one oxide of Si, Nb, Ti, Zr, Ta, Al, Sn, and In, and has an extinction coefficient at 550 nm being in a range of 0.005 to 3.
PRODUCTS USING GOLD AND SILVER NANOPARTICLES AND IONS TO ABSORB VISIBLE AND UV LIGHT
A method of diffusing one or more of gold nanoparticles, silver nanoparticles, gold ions, and silver ions, into a solid transparent material, causing it to absorb at least some wavelengths of visible light, UV light, or both, the method comprising: (a) providing a first volume of organic solvent with one or more of gold nanoparticles, silver nanoparticles, gold ions and silver ions, blocked with one or more ligands, suspended in the organic solvent; (b) adding a quantity of the volume of organic solvent to a volume of water; (c) immersing the transparent material in the volume of water; and (d) heating the volume of water with the added organic solvent and the transparent material for a period of time, causing the one or more of gold nanoparticles, silver nanoparticles, gold ions and silver ions to diffuse into the transparent material.
Stone-glass macrocomposites and compositions and methods of making
A method of forming a macrocomposite including dispersing or immersing a first material in a second material. The first material includes a stone and the second material a glass; or the first material may be glass and the second material stone. The macrcocomposite may further include metal. Preferably, the macrocomposite does not include an organic resin, an adhesive, or a polymer.
