Compositions and methods for additive manufacturing
10780631 · 2020-09-22 · ·

A composition for additive manufacturing of an article may include a base material, a functional particulate having at least one of an acicular morphology and a platy morphology, and binder. The functional particulate may increase a strength property of the article manufactured with the composition as compared to the strength property of the article manufactured with the composition being devoid of the functional particulate. A method of manufacturing an article via additive manufacturing may include providing a first layer of a powder composition. The powder composition may include a base material, a functional particulate, and binder. The method may also include binding the first layer of powder composition in a predetermined pattern to form a hardened two-dimensional shape including the powder composition, and successively providing additional layers of the powder composition and binding the respective layers to form the article.

ALKALI ACTIVATED NATURAL POZZOLAN BASED CONCRETE CONTAINING GROUND GRANULATED BLAST FURNACE SLAG

Alkali activated concrete compositions containing natural pozzolan, ground granulated blast furnace slag, alkali activators such as an alkali hydroxide and an alkali silicate, and optionally fine and coarse aggregates. Alkali activated concretes made therefrom and methods of making such concretes are also specified. The inclusion of ground granulated blast furnace slag provides significantly superior mechanical strength (e.g. compressive strength) to the alkali activated concretes within 12-24 hours of curing at 30-60 C.

Low-density high-strength concrete and related methods
10759701 · 2020-09-01 · ·

A low-density, high-strength concrete composition that is lightweight and self-compacting or non-self-compacting, with a low weight-fraction of aggregate to total dry raw materials, and a highly-homogenous distribution of a non-absorptive and closed-cell lightweight aggregate such as glass microspheres or copolymer polymer beads or a combination thereof, and the steps of providing the composition or components. Lightweight concretes formed therefrom have low density, high strength-to-weight ratios, and high R-value. The concrete has strength similar to that ordinarily found in structural lightweight concrete but at a lower density, such as an oven-dried density as low as 40 lbs./cu.ft. Such strength-to-density ratios range approximately from above 30 cu.ft/sq.in. to above 110 cu.ft/sq.in., with a 28-day compressive strength ranging from about 3400 to 8000 psi.

Curable formulations for structural and non-structural applications

According to some embodiments, a curable mixture configured to set in the presence of water, wherein the mixture comprises magnesium oxide, a primary cementitious component (e.g., slag cement) and at least one accelerant. A proportion by weight of the primary cementitious component is 80% to 120% of a proportion of magnesium oxide by weight.

Hexagonal boron nitride/cement/polymer composites and methods of synthesis

Hexagonal Boron Nitride (hBN) is a synthetic material that may be used in several applications due to its chemical inertness, thermal stability, and other beneficial properties. hBN composite materials and method for making such composites are described here. In particular composite materials including both functionalized hBN and cement or cementitious materials and methods for making the same are discussed. Such materials may be useful for construction, well cementing (both primary and remedial cementing), nuclear industry, 3D printing of advanced multifunctional composites, and refractory materials.

Snap-set, ready-mix joint compound

A joint compound system includes a set-inhibited, pre-wetted, setting-type, ready-mix joint compound and a set initiator. The set-inhibited, pre-wetted, setting-type joint compound includes a ready-mixed, setting-type joint compound base with a calcium-free phosphate set preventing agent that impedes chemical hydration of a gypsum component of the setting-type joint compound. The joint compound base is free of calcium carbonate. The set initiator includes alum to reinitiate the chemical hydration reactions.

Gypsum composition for dry-curing coating material, gypsum-based coating material, and construction method for gypsum-based coating material

There is provided a gypsum composition for a drying type coating material, the gypsum composition, when made into a gypsum-based coating material by addition of water, capable of forming a coating film in which color unevenness is suppressed even though the coating film is thin and smooth. This gypsum composition for a drying type coating material contains hemihydrate gypsum having a mean particle diameter of 50 m or less, calcium carbonate having a mean particle diameter of 50 m or less, and a setting retarder, wherein the gypsum composition has a content of calcium carbonate of 100 to 400 parts by mass and a content of the setting retarder of 0.1 parts by mass or more each based on 100 parts by mass of the hemihydrate gypsum.

CHROMIUM-FREE SILICATE-BASED CERAMIC COMPOSITIONS WITH REDUCED CURING TEMPERATURE
20200123070 · 2020-04-23 ·

A composition based on a certain chromium-free silicate-based binder is described. The composition is an aqueous solution of lithium-doped potassium silicate in combination with an aluminum or aluminum alloy powder, zinc powder or a combination thereof. The coatings of the present invention are capable of achieving a full cure at temperatures as low as 350-450 degrees F. by the inclusion of a colloidal solution of a nano-sized ceria, thus making the coatings especially suitable for application on temperature sensitive base materials.
