According to one embodiment the blank of flexible sheet material includes a main bottom portion having a front toe area, a rear heel area and opposed sides, said main bottom portion being in the general shape of a foot sole. A front strap portion having an elongated shape extends outward from one of the opposed sides of the main bottom portion near the front toe area and having a free end, and a pair of heel-strap flaps extend outward from opposite sides of the main bottom portion near the rear heel area and configured to form an enclosed heel portion and a rear strap of the shoe upper. According to another embodiment the front strap is formed separately from the main bottom portion and pair of heel-strap flaps.

Ribbons of different colors, shapes and fabrics can be attached to and between the loops enabling a wearer to modify the appearance of the footwear.

Each of the clip receivers is positioned between the top surface and the bottom surface of the sole such that they are positioned entirely within the sole. The clip receiver is mateable with the clip.

According to an example embodiment, an article of footwear that automatically secures to a user's foot includes a sole and a closure mechanism with a first portion and a second portion. The first portion of the closure mechanism is attached to the sole. The second portion extends away from the sole. Deformation of a surface of the closure mechanism actuates the closure mechanism such that it automatically moves from a first stable position to a second stable position. In the second stable position, the closure mechanism conforms to and applies a force to at least one of an upper surface of the article of footwear and an upper surface of a foot of a user of the article of footwear.

The wrap length of the great toe strap section can be changed in such a way that an adjustable corrective force can be exerted on the great toe. A metatarsus strap section is also provided, the wrap length of which can be changed, wherein both strap sections can be coupled to each other such that a metatarsus corrective force acting laterally on the metatarsal bone can be varied to press the metatarsal bone on the foot inner side in the lateral direction towards the foot outer side. As a result of said metatarsus corrective force, a hallux corrective force in the direction toward the foot inner side can be exerted, wherein the great toe strap section is guided backwards from the great toe at an angle and enters a channel on the inside of the sole element that is arranged in the metatarsus region of the sandal.
